During a friendly game between Brazil and Tunisia on Tuesday night a banana got thrown at the Brazilian soccer player Richarlison. His club captain Harry Kane now also responded to the incident, describing it as ‘unacceptable’.
Richarlison posted on social media that FIFA had to make firm punishments for this incident or it would keep happening. Kane agreed and added:
“I hope FIFA can be strong and find out who done it, making sure the right consequences are made.”
Richarlison’s club coach Antonio Conte also had something to say regarding the incident, believing that the best thing to do was to give this fan a football ban for life.
Further, Kane goes on about the fact he is happy to play alongside Richarlison at Tottenham.

The 2021 annual report of Target includes a letter to the shareholders written by Brian Cornell, Chairman and CEO of Target, in which he talks about the company’s achievements of the past year and more.
Cornell starts by telling why Target made the achievements which it did despite the Covid-19 crisis. The main reason is that they have been building their team from the inside out, investing in their team members and their families. Cornell explained:
“we’ll keep growing because we’ve invested in the team, strategy and capabilities to do what’s at the very heart of our company culture.”
He keeps going by telling the shareholders the unique year it has been:
“In 2021, we grew comparable sales by 12.7%, on top of record growth in 2020.”
This fact is supported by all of their financial highlights. Not only did their total revenue increase by 13%, their net earnings increased by an astonishing 59% in comparison to the prior year.
As a result, Target want to continue to expand. They plan to open around 30 Targets each year across the country in order to reach an even greater audience. They also plan on continuing the investments in their staff members such as the 300 million dollar investment from earlier in the year.
Target will continue to invest back into the shareholders through store improvements and company culture.
During Journalism, Nienke van Drunen got asked to tell me about a recent embarrassing moment of her. After some thinking, she came up with her ‘not so interesting’ story.
At the end of her volleybal practice her team played a final game. Two people would simultaneously sprint towards the net from both halves of the court and then side shuffle alongside the net facing each other. The point of the game was to play a game of rock-paper-scissor.
Nienke however did not make it to this point. She and her opponent on the other side of the net tumbled over each other as their legs locked right underneath the net. Asked if it hurt, Nienke replied:
‘Actually no, but everyone looked at me like I broke something. I just wanted to get up and keep playing’
Her trainings always get filmed, which means she can keep showing this embarrassing moment to whoever and whenever she wants. But was the worst about it?
‘Everyone was still laughing about it after training in the locker room.’
This week is the last international break before the start of the World Cup in Qatar. Here France will try to become the first reigning champion to retain their title since Brazil in 1962. However, France is now going through a rough time where many things are going wrong.
Beginning with star player Kylian Mbappe continuing his fight against the French Football Federation (FFF) about the players’ image rights agreement. After already complaining about it it March, Mbappe now decided to take no part in activities and photoshoots organized by the national team’s sponsors. This resulted in a bad atmosphere in the team.
The FFF’s president Noel Le Graet is also under fire after being accused of sending inappropriate messages to female coworkers over the years. The 80 year old is urged, but refuses to step down, again building pressure around the team’s squad.
Next, Paul Pogba is currently under police protection as old friends and his brother tried to extort money from him. These people are now in jail, but Pogba is still surrounded of this trauma as well as being out with a torn miniscus.
At last, there are many minor injuries in France’s normal starting line-up at the moment. Whereas they are mostly small injuries, they can always effect a player’s form.
For soccer fan’s, the main audience, this is a very interesting article. Besides the fact that France is always a favorite at any big tournament, they are also the reigning World Champions. As a soccer fan I knew they had not been performing at their best lately, however it was never very clear why.
In my opinion, the lead is not very effective. It introduces the topic by asking a question, but it does not say anything about it further. The title does tell where the story is about, but then still, the lead also does not contain an attention grabber of any sort.
There is some sort of point of view, but very little. I say it like that because the writer talks a lot about how much things are going wrong. Where I know as well these are negative things, others would maybe think of this as an average story and that the team does not have to worry. Also, looking at their most recent results, it is even a fact that things are not going good.
For the rest, the article is very much fact-giving and explains the difficult situation which the French squad is in now.
Today I walked around campus while being on a mission. I had to find people who could help me in my scavenger hunt. I had to have a conversation about the weather and I had to find myself a piece of gum that wasn’t pink.
Starting off my hunt to my objectives, I directly ran into two people who were sitting at a table from politic science. They were trying to get people to vote for the upcoming elections. They had candies and other objects on the table which you could pick if you chose to vote. I decided to interview them straight off the bat.
The women sitting there was Hannah Schroeter. I started asking her about my first objective, her opinion on the weather to which she replied short and sweet: ‘A little too hot.’ Furthermore she was shocked by the group of interviewers walking up to her since I was not the only person where it came to their mind to directly interview this person. Questions were getting shoot to her from all different directions about completely different aspects.
The other person sitting behind the table was called Anders Staxen. In contradiction to Hannah, he seemed to like the weather, stating: ‘it is golf weather’. For the rest Anders seemed to be disappointed by the other interviewer who walked in front of us who did not decide to interview the pair.
As said earlier, I also needed to find myself a piece of gum that was not pink. Luckily for me, this table had free candy to give away which included white gum. So with this interview I really got two birds with one stone.

Last week, the new co-owner of Chelsea Todd Boehly made an out-of-the-blue suggestion. Boehly would want to see an all-star game take place between the north and south teams in the Premier League, much as it is done in American sports for example basketball.
The reason for this suggestion was to create a huge commercial match that would attract much worldwide attention, earning money for all parties involved. The reactions of other Premier league coaches were less enthusiastic, for example Liverpool’s coach Jurgen Klopp:
“He forgets that in the big sports in America, these players have four-month breaks. It is completely different in football. What can I say? Does he want to bring the Harlem Globetrotters [an American exhibition basketball team] as well and let them play against a football team?”
For the rest, the article goes on about if this match would take place, which players would make the all-star teams? They also include their reasoning for every player. This was a very good idea as it is very interesting for soccer supporters to read this, but more importantly, it makes the readers think and more often disagree. In the soccer world, much like any other sport, there are always ongoing talks about who is better, and with this these teams, writers directly put in on black and white, making it easier for anyone to disagree with any decision.
The fact that the authors made these teams show a clear point of view as they show their opinions on the players. Besides the making of the actual team. The rest of the information are all facts and no opinions.
In my opinion, the lead is effective, although it only includes a who, what, and when, I do not think the why, where, and how are important here. The Why does get explained later in the article. For the rest the biggest attention grabber is in the title, stating that arguably the biggest name in soccer history Cristiano Ronaldo, misses out on his team, as the title states:
“Premier League North vs. South all-star XI: Erling Haaland vs. Harry Kane, but Cristiano Ronaldo misses out.”
One day before the opening of the racing season, there was a fire in the barn of Norfolk Down Race Track in Chicago at four o’clock this morning.
Of the 25 horses which were stabled here, 15 of them did not survive the fire, 13 thoroughbreds and two saddle horses. The 10 horses which did escape included two horses which stampeded through the barnyard with their backs on fire.
Arson is suspected as the cause. The fire chief, Jim Connery was certainly suspicious of the incident:
“The fire exploded near the center of the barn. Flames were shooting out of the building when we got here. The fire is definitely suspicious.”
While watching workers clean up the area, a jockey named Albert Ramos was almost in tears:
“That’s my best friends,” he said, pointing to the surviving horses. “I love horses more than I do people. I feel like I want to cry.”
The barn was a one–story, wooden structure with only several rows of charred wooden supports remaining after the fire. An arson squad had been called to the scene while the fire smoldered until noon.
Last night the daughter of a locally prominent attorney Jim Wensen got arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Cathy Wensen apparently does not learn from her mistakes as this is the third time in sixth months she got arrested for the same reason.
After becoming this year’s homecoming queen, Cathy is going to Vanderbilt University. Here the straight-A student will do a graduate study in Biology.
