Pierce is from Excelsior Springs, Missouri and was born on October 28, 2003. Starting off in preschool, he went to a catholic school then transferred over to Excelsior Middle school and then moved on to high school. In middle school, Pierce had done cross country and track for two years and tried out for basketball but did not make it on the team. Moving onto high school, Pierce had done track and field, soccer, and was interested in coding. Towards the end of his high school career, he had finally decided that coding was not for him.
Looking into colleges, Pierce was unsure on where to go and what to do with his life. He ventured to Morningside for an official tour and was a huge fan. He wanted a hand on experience instead of a big college that the professors don’t even know you. Late into the summer before leaving for college, Pierce was still unsure on what to do, but made the scary decision to go to college five hours away and far from his family.
Coming to college, Pierce was very nervous and not excited or prepared for the challenge. He felt that he was forced into this big step of his life by family members. When he had gotten to Morningside, instead of looking into computer science as a major, Pierce decides to look into Business Administration. “I feel that this major is pretty lit” he says, even though he is only in his first year of the program. On the athletic side of college, Esports had caught his eye and made him excited to play Rocket League competitively. During this process of Esports and classes, he has met a lot of new people.
Tayden is a recent friend of Pierce at Morningside as they have met through a mutual friend. She says that Pierce is very “out of pocket and hoodrat” but still enjoys being with him as a person. In a recent event, Pierce had let Tayden pierce his ear. This shows that pierce is open to new ideas and loves the adventure of everything he does.
Pierce has made it his passion to play esports at Morningside. He started to play consistently throughout the semester trying to balance this sport, classes, and work. Pierce has really excelled in the game when he got to college as his parents would not be pressuring him about school and tell him to stop playing games.
Tyler Duffy is a teammate of Pierce and a Rocket League player at Morningside. He is a sophomore and has been on the team for over a year. “Pierce is a really good individual player but needs to work better with the team.” Overall, Tyler has great improvement in his craft and is excited to see him in the future seasons of Rocket League.

With the recent overtake of Twitter, Elon Musk had made the executive decision to fire over half of the staff and create an ultimatum for the rest of the workers. Angelo Martinez, a junior says that he feels confident in his ability in Rainbow Six Siege. In 2019, Angelo and his Esports team, had gone to a tournament. He felt very confident in himself and his team to win the entire tournament. They were steam rolling through the competition and was on top of the world.
Out of 100 teams, they fought to place third in the entire tournament. The top two teams that had finished above them, were professional Esports players. This only boosted his confidence as it showed him that he has the ability to play at that level of competition.
In the moment of placing third, Angelo was very pissed as he felt that he could have done better in the tournament and win it all. He says “I’m sorry guys, this is on me”. He blamed himself in the moment and apologized to his teammates. His teammates replied and said that you did your best and it is the teams fault.
Back to Morningside news, Esports is heading into playoff week where three of the four teams are competing in a three round bracket. Rocket League, Valorant, and Overwatch. This Past Monday, Valorant tragically lost the best of 3 in map 3. With the recent release of Overwatch two, our Overwatch team has been on the grind, starting off strong. They are ranked first in the division and will be playing their first playoff game on Thursday. Rocket League Varsity with a record of 5-3 and ranked 4th in the division is playing against Carthage College on Friday. Rocket League J.V. on the other hand is 7-1 and ranked 2nd in the division. In Morningside Business, students and professors traveled to the art gallery in downtown Sioux City for an event hosted by Ho Chunk. This event was a way for this company to spread their wings to Morningside students and professors and talk about how they got where they are. Offering internships and possible jobs in the future. Many of these speakers had started where we are today and grinded their way to the top of their jobs. ESPN sports broadcaster, Stuart Scott proclaims his recent battle of cancer at last nights ESPY’s awards ceremony. Talking about his hardships during the past week of chemo and how he barely made it here to receive the Jimmy V’s perseverance award.
Scott did not feel that he was going to be able to it to the awards ceremony as he had spent a week in the hospital. He had crashed down with liver complications, kidney failure, and four surgeries. Without hope in those seven days, his doctors and nurses did and he did make it because of them.
During his speech, Scott talks about the greats that he had recently given the same awards too. Jimmy Valvano himself gave Scott the willing to fight for his life by saying, “don’t give up, don’t ever give up”. Scott then replies to this famous quote by saying “So, to be honoured with this, I now have a responsibility to also not ever give up. I’m not special”.
Scott is very proud with what he has achieved as a father, saying, “The best thing I have ever done, the best thing I will ever do, is be a dad to Taelor and Sydni”.
