Draymond Green

Recent outbreak from Draymond Green toward Jordan Poole has him on the chop in block for the future of the Golden State Warriors. Green struck Poole during a practice as they were arguing.

The Warriors Organization is now debating whether to continue with Green and work through their problems. Or to look toward the future of the team with Jordan Poole. Green has been a huge part of the Warriors and their legacy through the past decade, fighting to win their fifth championship.

The lead of this article drew me in to learn more about the situation between these teammates. The audience is towards the players, fans, or coaches as it gives info about the current situation that is important to know. The news value is that the Warriors have a big decision to make about whether they want to keep Green on the team or to move on.

Morningside Esports

Fighting to be recognized as a Morningside Athletic, Esports has made their mark constantly in the competitive scene. Fighting to win championships, Esports is competing in their 7th year. Throughout the years, this athletic has played four major games that include Valorant, Rocket League, Overwatch, and League of Legends. Having two championships in their name, in the games League of Legends and Rocket League.

Nathanael Roop, ex captain of the Overwatch team, feels that Esports is “a really good way for people with unathletic abilities to still be able to compete in a competitive environment”. Esports at Morningside has the sole purpose for players around the world to play video games competitively, but it also turns into a family for many of the players.

This family affected many people’s lives including Tyler Duffy, a Rocket League champion from last season, who also dual sports in soccer. He had felt that Esports here gotten him out of his comfort zone and made him try new things. These new things are exciting for him as his team is back this season to defend their title.

Professional Esports may be known by many outside of college, but at Morningside it is unknown to many. Seth Nelson, teammate of Tyler and also a Rocket League Champion, had no idea what esports was. Seth was introduced while he was scheduling his visit to Morningside. The administrator had asked if Seth played video games, he said yes and that is how his legacy started. Seth came here and hit the competitive scene hard and won a championship.

Esports is identified as a collegiate sport as Morningside, but none of the players feel that they get treated like they should. Other sports teams see it as being cool but don’t treat the players like they matter. “I believe it is another form of competing, but I would not compare it to football or basketball.” says Seth Nelson.

Throughout the years at Morningside, the numbers of players have been sporadic as every year students drop out, graduate, or quit esports in general. This year, the Valorant players number had grown significantly giving them the chance to have two full teams. While the League of Legends team had lost players to let them barely be able to make a team.

In Nathanael’s eyes, Esports at Morningside takes “two steps forward and 1 step back”. The one step back is this year as we have lost players in a few of our games. Seth feels that the program has been more family orientated throughout the years. The coaching staff has worked harder to create relationships with the players. 4:30 Caf is known to everyone on the team as many of the players go and eat dinner together.

Nathanael, Tyler, and Seth all feel that to improve, the franchise needs to improve in finding better committed players and to advertise our athletic more.

The Eagles Super Bowl Plan

Coach of the Philadelphia Eagles has been making moves this off season to make contracts with studs of players. The Eagles are the last team in the NFL to be undefeated this season. Leading them are top tier talent like Jalen Hurts, Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson, Fletcher Cox, and Brandon Graham. These players ‘have been in Philly longer than soft pretzels.”

This season, head coach Howie Roseman has been picking up players that have been slept on by other teams. This includes James Bradberry for the Giants, AJ Brown from the Titans, Haason Reddick from the Cardinals, and Darius Slay from the Lions. Roseman has been making moves like this ever since he had taken control in 2015 over Chip Kelly.

The lead of this article is interesting as it brings up that coach Roseman is the boldest and cagiest wheel dealer. It drew my attention. The News Value is that the Eagles program is looking really good this season as Roseman has been putting in work for the team. The audience is toward anyone interested in football, fans of the eagles, or even players.

Pastor Andy Nelson

Here on campus at Morningside, Pastor Andy Nelson shares his faith to all the students, staff, and community. Starting his journey at Morningside in 2018, Nelson shares his thoughts about faith and encourages students to think and talk about their personal faiths. One of his jobs is to connect the different groups of people like students, staff, and the community. Bringing them together to talk about faith and sharing their experiences.

Andy grew up in a faith community, reading in mass and exploring his faith. He was seen by people of the community as someone trying to learn the religion at a young age. This is usually not seen to often, so many of those people brought the idea of becoming a seminarian. Andy seemed to be very interested in this idea growing up.

Going to college in Northeast Iowa, he started to study religion, having the plan of joining the seminary. Moving toward his junior year of college, he swayed away from this idea as he was getting burnt out of this life. Many events were going on during this time, such as 9/11. This scary event made Nelson question what he was doing in life, and this ultimately made him quit after two years of the four year program. Finishing college with a Master of Arts. Looking for things to do in his life he wanted to “come to the end of the day and see where I started and see what I have done.”

Changing his mind again, he decides to transfer his credits back and to go back to become a seminarian. In the last year of school, he had internship at St. Olaf college. After finishing school, his first call was in St Paul, Minnesota.

Recently, Andy moves to Sioux city with his wife and 4 kids for his wifes job. He found a job in vermillion, which a short commute. Then when the campus ministry job opened up at Morningside, he knew it was his place to be.

Wanting to expand into the community at Morningside, Andy wants to host events such as mini recitals, student faith stories, and start conversations about how god is affecting people’s lives.

Dayne

Dayne is from Kansas City, Missouri and he had come to Sioux City for college. The question at hand, was asking about a life changing experience. He had told me “coming to college, and to be on scholarship” had changed his life severely. His freshman year of college he had played football on scholarship but later into his sophomore and junior year he fell ineligible for academic reasons. Thinking to transfer his junior year to play football, time flew by to quick and he missed his deadline.

Majoring in Biology his freshman year, he switched it to Mass Comm. He was not happy with the direction Biology was taking him, saying “I felt like I wasn’t getting anywhere, Mass Comm. was more meaningful to me.” Loving to edit, he will post videos to Youtube about could include highlight videos from basketball games.

News Comment #4

The College Football Playoff is going to be tripled in size by the year 2026. This will bring the total of teams to 12, 6 being the highest ranked conference champions, and the other 6 being the highest ranked that is not a conference champion. This will ultimately give more teams hope and let them have a chance to earning a national championship, and will draw in more viewers.

Predicted to gain $2 billion, this new playoff will hype up college football with a lot more national title implicated games. In comparison to March Madness with their $1.1 billion that they bring in, this new playoff will likely be close to double this larger tournament. ESPN is under discussion whether they will lone broadcast every game.

Strangers of the world

Today I explored campus, and I found Joseph. He is a studio art major that is not sure of what he wants to do with his life, but he had an idea of joining the priesthood. Joseph is a freshman from Jackson, Nebraska and he lives on campus. Joseph is a very nice person and likes to do Rubik’s cubes in his free time. A quote that he gave me was “When I am weak, then I am strong”. He says that this quote encourages him and empowers him to finish the day. Joseph gave me a pencil as an object as that was all that he had in his bookbag. The pencil in very short, so that tells me that a lot of work has been done with it in the past.

The next person that I had interviewed was Ozzy. Ozzy is from Italy and came to Morningside to play soccer on scholarship. He is majoring in business Administration and in the future wants to be a Resource Manager. “I like it” is what Ozzy said when I asked him about the weather. He also explained that he is not ready for the harsh winters to come in Sioux City, but he likes how warm it is at the moment.
