Social Media is taking over. More and more people now are getting on to social media. The numbers now are up to, 2 out of every 3 people are using social media. Most of them are just trying to get in touch with old friends and family. The Pew Research Center found the largest motivating factor for adults to use sites like Facebook or Twitter was keeping in touch with friends.
It’s getting to the point that almost everyone now is relying on the internet and social media to stay in the loop with things. It was back in the late 90’s when no one knew what the internet was and many people thought the internet would never be to where it is today. Within five to ten more years those numbers will continue to rise and almost everyone will be depending on social media to get news, and stay in touch with family and friends.

Yes, social media is the trend of the moment. My sense is that once it becomes overly commercialized it may lose some popularity. Advertisers are already exploiting the “like” element as a way to get friends to influence friends. God to know, though, the popularity isn’t all celebrity driven.
