I would say that some of my expectations have been met and exceeded while there are still some that I have yet to achieve that have maybe been altered a bit. My biggest realization is that that I have grown up a lot as a person and I have met new people that I consider really good friends. I have also realized that going to Morningside for college was truly a good decision for me even if it is quite a long ways from home. But I also set a few long term goals that I will continue to reach for and hope to attain in the next four years. As far as answering the questions I asked in the earlier blog a lot of those are yet to be determined. I think that since Ihave been here not even one full semester many of my questions will need further examination and figuring out. But so far I am happy with where I am and can’t wait for new situations and experiences coming my way.

I believe that literacy is the ability to be able to read and write and then be able to comprehend those things. I think that literacy depends on what you want to come across like in Dirk’s article he talks about the different genres and how that changes how a person writes. For example, people who like country music get a different interpretation of the music than a person who doesn’t like country music would probably get.

What my professors expect from me is to show up to class on time, let them know ahead of time that I will be gone if I have to miss a day for some reason. If you need help don’t be afraid to ask. Most of the professors are here to help you. They may be tough professors and force you to do things that you don’t want to do but don’t be afraid to ask for help. All professors probably have different things that they expect from each of there students or from the class that they are teaching. I approach my classes to do the best that I can do in them. Some of them are or could be easy for me and I’ll fly right through them, but then there are the classes that I will struggle in. I just have to do the best that I can and if I need help I need to go it.

I think that learning about a place’s history is important because to fully understand the place you have to know where the place originated. Knowing the background teaches you everything that it has gone through and it is common knowledge that history repeats itself so in order to escape the problems from the past you have to know about them and learn from them. Your role will be affected by the roles that were played by other alumni members. I will be someone at Morningside who has grown and taken my lessons learned with me where ever I end up going after graduating.

Who am I now? Is really a great question. I am still the kid that came from a small town in Nebraska. I still don’t talk a whole lot, but I do talk more than when I first got here. I have matured a lot in this first term. I have to be more responsible on certain things and I have learned not to procrastinate as much. Although I still do it some, it doesn’t happen has often which is really nice for me. I really do not think I have changed that much, and I feel like the same person I was when I first got here.

My major right now is to study business administration or at least something to do with business. I know it is still early in my college career so that could probably change at anytime. I’m not even sure what I would change to. So for right now it is going to stay at a business major. I have chosen to follow on the lines of a business major because of all the different opportunities that can come out of having a major in business. There isn’t just one or two jobs that I use a business major for there are several.

I have learned that my writing process can be very slow if I don’t stay focused but, when I stay focused I actually can get something done. What I thought i did well in this paper was that I created an outline of what I was going to write about before I started which i think really helped me get started on this paper and to get it done in good time. I’m not sure for myself what I would have done better because I think it sounds like a good paper. So I guess I will just have to wait until after tomorrow and see what advice I get out of my peer review.

My first article that I chose to read about has to do with church attendance and happiness among Northern Irish undergraduate students. In this article it talks how they have did some studies and have taken surveys at different colleges of kids who attend church services and how most of them are more happy than those kids who don’t attend a church service. This article also kinda talks about depression in and how that is not seen as much in kids who attend church services than those who don’t have a religious faith.
The second article had to do with happiness, health, and religiosity. This was a test for an association between, gender differences in, happiness, physical health, mental health, and religiosity. They had four separate self-rating skills where they used males and females. Males had a significantly higher self-rating mean score of happiness and mental health than females, while females had a significantly higher religiosity mean score than the males. All the inter-correlations between the four self-ratings were significant and positive.

I don’t think all positive thinking destroyed the economy but I do think some did thought. There are people out in the world who think positive to try and help the people around them and just the economy in general. They will go out of their way to do make things better for others. While at the same time you have some positive thinkers that only do things to help themselves. These positive thinkers don’t really care about others they just want to get the big bucks and keep what they have going. Just depending on the person that you are I think is what helps the economy and what could help destroy it.
