Judaism

Judaism is a religion of its own, there are many different things that go into the being a part of the Jewish religion. What really amazes me is all the laws and things that the Jewish people have to go by. I don’t think I could ever live the lives they live with all the rules. The one rule that really bothers me is the Kosher rules that say you cant eat this food, or dress that way. Also another thing that bothers  me is  that some Jews live more closely to the rules than the others. I know this goes for the same in Christianity, but I see Jews taking things more serious and more to heart. Judaism is one of the oldest religions and has been the setting stone for many of the others. I cant wait till we get into more of the religions and see how much the differ or are alike.

Unlikely Disciple

Unlikely Disciple was very good I thought, it brings a good view of what we are going through in our transformation to  college. To see all the things that Roose goes through to make his transition is kind of like what we had to do. We had to leave our comfort spot and go out on our own for the first time in our lifetime. This book shows us some of the challenges we might go through if we ever decide to transfer to a college, it may not be to the extent of what Roose went through, but it would go along those lines.

This book also really helped me put in perspective of the two models of pilgrimage we are going through in class. When we split the two pilgrimage’s up and sat down and and figured out which one was better than the other, it really helped me understand how to find the things we need to. Overall my view on the book is a good one, I’m glad we had to read this book because it helped me understand how important God really is in a college kids life, and how everyone goes through changes in life.

First four weeks

In my first four weeks the thing that as struck is how much really goes into pilgrimage. When I ever thouoght of pilgramge all i really new was that it had to do with traveling and thats about all I got out of it. In our clasds we look more into it and it makes me really think to myseld about why people need to move to the “center” to be closer to God. It is a very good point but where is the true center, eveyone most likely argues about where the center is. Also in this class learning the theories behind things is very intresting to me, even though sometimes it is hard to understand. It proves that there are many differant perspectives in this world and we all need to be open to them and learn a little about each so it can help us defend our faith when we need it. This class as opened my eyes and I’m looking forward to what is to come.

My Dream Job

My dream job would be being able to coach football at the division one level. The reason this is my dream job is because of my love of football and if I got to be a coach i would still be able to impact young men’s lives and teach them aspects of life that they don’t really know. Becoming a coach I will have to get my coaching endorsement and take classes about coaching, but since i cant major in coaching my major will be special education and then I will go on and hopefully get a graduate assistant coaching job somewhere and further my education and get my masters in something to do with education. I do agree with what Alex had to say about  networking and looking for things put on my resume in my first year. I have never thought about starting so early in preparing my resume, what Alex said opens up many doors and makes me think about many things in life. Even though we are just freshman thinking of the future now is never a bad idea if you don’t worry about it to much. Yes I realize that I have four years left here at Morningside, but if i start to prepare for the future little by little i will be set off better when it comes time to graduate and think about the next step of life. Alex Watters had a lot of great things to say and I took a lot from what he said and hopefully I apply it to my life when the time comes.

Intro To Religion

Intro to Religion as been a very fun course for me in the first two weeks. A few things that I like about this course is that right away we jump into a challenging question on “what is religion?” Right away we had to start thinking about what religion meant to us and for many of us it was hard to come up with a sound definition. Also I like how we are going through Durkheim, Freud, Frazer, and Marx and learning on what they think religion is. It is good to get an idea off what other scholars think of religion. This class brings things to perspective and it really makes us think on what be truly believe in and what we think about religion. This class will be challenging at times, but overall it will give us a wide variety of what religion’s are out there in the world that we don’t know of.
