Under Pressure

Pressure for our generation can come from a variety of places. Family members, friends, ourselves to name a few. As for me, I have put the pressure on myself. I expect myself to work hard enough to maintain a good GPA. I expect myself to be the hardest worker that there is at the Pizza Ranch. And I expect myself to get a great job after college.

I am fortunate in the fact that my parents don’t put that pressure on me. They know what I put myself through and often it’s mom telling me “why don’t you give yourself a little break honey?” Long story short, I am the one who puts the expectations there. I am the one responsible for my education. And I am the one who decided to go to  college when my parents didn’t graduate from college.

I am here to give myself and my future family the best life possible. This is my expectation and I plan to fulfill it.

My Place

As I sit here on stage in the cool draft, I look up to the empty balcony and wonder who will be sitting there in the future. Who will come to see me perform? My parents, brothers, girlfriend, and family are sure shots. But who else? Who will come watch and listen as myself and others put our talent on the line and show the world what we have to share?

I love this place. I’ve been here many times before. The acoustics are so amazing that even as I rifle through the keys on the keyboard, I can hear the sound resonate through the auditorium. Hundreds of seats surround the curved stage. The back room doors are open so that anyone who wishes could come and see the beauty. The hardwood stage is often cold. But it’s made that way on purpose. It’s a good feeling to have when you perform. Kinda gives you that feeling of “it’s okay, I’m not going to pass out from the hot lights.”

The auditorium is old, but it is still the best that exists. The acoustics are the best that you will find anywhere at any time. I look around and know that this will be a place that I will come for years.

History

Why is the knowing the history of a place important to knowing and understanding your role there? I feel that it depends on the type of person that you are. If you want to carve your own path in life and do things your own way, then knowing the history of the place that you are at isn’t really that important. But, if you are more of a person who is basing what they do off of what others have done before them, then knowing the history is completely important and should be used to benefit those current students. I am not sure what kind of a role I will play in Morningside College’s history. I hope that I can leave a lasting impression on my professors and other students. I hope that I will be remembered as a person who really “had it together” I guess we will all just have to wait and see.

Liberal Arts

Liberal Arts: The act of learning a wide variety of information in a wide variety of subjects in order to benefit oneself in their personal life, career, schooling, and all other aspects of one’s life.

I have always felt that I was a very well rounded person. I was in the most advanced classes in my high school and did well in them. I played multiple sports and excelled. I was a main leader in the theatre and all my choir groups. So, how will liberal arts affect what I do while I am at Morningside? How will they affect what I do after I graduate? I haven’t even the slightest idea. And neither does anyone else. No one can tell the future and no one should ever try. All I plan on doing is continuing to pursue my personal goals with an open mind to whatever may come my way! That’s all I feel like I can do.

Reasons/Goals for College

I am at college to become a more intelligent individual. I am here because I need to be here in order to do what I want to do for the rest of my life! I am going to be an engineer so I need to take more advanced classes to become capable of fulfilling the duties of my job.

A few goals:
Work as hard as I can to maintain a good GPA
Minor in music
Enjoy myself not just at parties but also in my classes!

Assignment for Friday, August 26th

Some connections that I see between the writings we read are that they all seem to say to have fun but stay on top of your school work. They also tell us to not spread ourselves too thin while still getting involved. Find a “happy medium” and college will be much more enjoyable.

Expectations

Maintain at least a 3.33 GPA
Have fun
Graduate on time
Become a more well rounded individual
Excel in my vocal groups
Be a social individual
Manage my time wisely
Play intramurals
Be seen as a great person
Just stay me, but evolve into a brighter and better me!

Questions

What is this year going to be like?
How do I manage my time properly?
How can I help my fellow classmates?
How can my classmates help me?
What should I get involved in?
How many activities should I get involved in?
What do I do if a teacher is being unfare to me or someone else?
How do I know who to trust?
How many parties do I go to?
Who is reading my blog? lol 🙂
