The Pokémon Detective Pikachu trailer is tearing Pokémon fans apart

This article talks about the new film that is taking the popular animated series to the live action stage. Pokemon is and has been an acclimated popular show for kids and adults since the 90’s. This new movie is tearing fans apart because the film is based on Pikachu being a detective and being able to talk to just one human and the human understanding it.

some fans think that it is kind of creepy and some other feel that it will be a cool take on the animated character. Pikachu is voiced by Ryan gosling, and will be out in 2019.

Many fans are torn apart because they don’t believe the creatures should look realistic and that instead they need to look more animated and less creepy. Others are clapping back saying that these are technically monsters and if they were real that is what they would look like.

The article gave both perspectives, describing how fans feel about the new film.

Many fans are excited about the film and many are not so sure how to feel about it. In my opinion I think it is kind of fun and fresh and something that we have been waiting for, for a long time. It is not really what I would have expected, but everyone has different creative ideas.

Last person I talked to

Last night at about 11 pm, I had to call my friend Kylee, because she was one of my sources for my news assignment. I texted her first, while I was freaking out in my kitchen table about the assignment. Then, I asked her if we could FaceTime really fast so I could ask her some more questions. She agreed, so I FaceTimed her, she answered and was wearing a  blue plaid and said hi. The video call worked for a split second, then the screen froze and we could not see each other. It was very frustrating, so I disconnected from the wifi and still could not see. I asked her what she was up to and she said she was at buffalo wild wings having a beer with our friends Tyler and Lauren, they said hello too. I could hear glasses clinking, the television and people talking loudly in the back ground. I asked her if she could text me instead, because I could not see her or understand what she was saying; she said yes, then we hung up.

Profile

This Profile is on Ru Paul, an American entertainer that was born in San Diego, CA. He is famously known for being an icon to the gay community as he is a well known drag queen that became famous in the 80’s. The profile said that he moved to New York where he started performing and later became the “Queen of NY”. Right now he is the host of his own show “Ru Paul’s Drag Race” where he brings drag queens from across the country to compete against each other.

The Frame is basically how he became famous and where he started.

He is relevant because he has changed the views people have on drag and how it has influenced a lot of people today.

Taylor Swift’s voter push wasn’t enough to turn Tennessee blue

This article relates back to the article about Taylor Swift voicing her endorsement on democrats in her home state of Tennessee through an instagram post. This current article explains that though it was the first time the singer voiced her political views, it also was not enough for the state to turn blue. She endorsed US Senate candidate and former Gov. Phil Bredesen, as well as US House of Representatives candidate Jim Cooper, in her home state of Tennessee.

The state remains red, and is being represented by eight time member of congress, Marsha Blackburn. In the original instagram, Swift said that she wanted those smart people that were not able to vote before to make the right decision, because they are now 18.

The article said that the  initial post seemed to make an impact, but it is hard to know if it would have made any sort of difference.

This article is more of a follow up on the original post. I think it is nice and kind of cool that, though it was not the outcome that was hoped by the singer, the author went back to revisit the story.

I also like that, the author did not take any sides on this or make any remarks about the winning or losing sides.

News Draft

Morningside Dance Team gets ready to compete against 24 colleges in Iowa.

(Sound Bite: 5,6,7,8)

Iowa State Dance Team Championships are just around the corner. And every year, more than 5,000 dancers from all around Iowa showcase their best talents to compete for the trophy, and Morningside college is no exception.

Roughly 270 high schools and 24 colleges compete for the title of state champions. Morningside College Dance Team (MDT) is made up of 14 dancers all coming from different backgrounds.

The team has had to learn choreography 3 months in advance, and these dancers practice 3 times a week for 2 hours each time. Senior Jenna winkler is one of the captains of the team and she tells us that it takes great time to perfect these routines (soundbite of Jenna,  what does it take to prepare for these championships? ) .

Jenna aslo mentioned that team competes in Jazz, Pom and hiphop, against other colleges and universities with similar size as Morningside.

Coach Alisha Steckler mentioned the process of selecting the music as every team has a theme for each individual dance (sound bite about the theme and song choices)

As mentioned by the coach,  the team is judged in execution, overall effect, appearance, choreography, showmanship and technique and all of those components are taken into consideration by multiple judges.

Junior Allison Wright shared her experience and told us how fun it is to compete at the championships (Sound Bite on Allison)

Morningside college will be competing on November 30th in Des Moines, IA at the Wells Fargo Arena.

You might be polluting the oceans by just wearing and washing your clothes.

Did you know that most of the ocean’s pollution does not come from the typical straws and cups? and what if you were told you are actually hurting the planet by wearing clothes that are made out of “plastic”.

It is no secret that today, the everyday wear is made out of polyester, nylon, and synthetic fibers. Wearing clothes is not the issue, the problem is washing the clothes, because tiny plastic fibers get released from the clothing being washed, into the already polluted oceans.

In 2016 Imogen Knapp, a marine scientist at the University of Plymouth co-directed a study that found exactly how many fibers are released from what types of clothing. Think about the amounts of clothes that are washed on the daily, and how much clothes each person has.

The study found that seven hundred thousand fibers get released in a single load of laundry  and  Knapp has conducted an experiment to see what items release the most amount of fibers, and found that acrylic fiber shed the most, followed by polyester.

So next time you buy and wash clothes, watch out for materials that might hurt the marine life and oceans.

(I will implement the voice of a environmental friendly person in the science department to see if they knew this was an issue. I will probably delete the study and instead focus on how the environmental friendly person didn’t know they were hurting the planet unless they did know that.

This is all I have so far, I will get more interviews soon, I’m struggling to pick another story that I am interested in doing.

Week 11

Crocs is now targeting teens. Somehow, it’s working.

According to this article, the Crocs brand is now more popular than it has been in the past. The brand has managed to appeal the minds of young people in the generation Z, and it is coming with new designs and collaborations.

According to the article the company has even given the Generation Z their own name as they call them “explorers”, because they are its primary buyers, these shoes also sell for $30 to $40 dollars. Which is more affordable than the 500 dollar shoes from the recent collaboration with Alife, which is far more expensive.

The article says that this is not their first collaboration to make these shoes cool, it has also collaborated with singers like post Malone to promote and sell more.

The article mentioned that once upon a time these shoes were the joke of all shoes because they are ugly, but according to recent events the shoe is now very popular  even in runways and high fashion. These shoes were at its all time high back in 2014, but they are trying to revive the trend.

(In my opinion these shoes are really ugly, but fashion is fashion and people want to be in with the latest trend. I think they are so ugly that people find them interesting and unique. The article said too that these shoes have been around for 10 years and are now just becoming more popular. kids now are obsessed with trends of the past, so this could explain why these shoes are popular. The article does a good job about talking about exactly what the shoe is doing and the roots of its popularity.)
