Christine Hallquist is the first open transgender woman to run for senate, as of recently she has received death threats. She is says she is not afraid, because she has been through a lot already, because being transgender is not easy.

I think the author (Anna North) of this article did a fantastic job about being objective, and not putting her opinion about the subject in the article. She basically describes the story with the facts and a direct interview from Hill.Tv from Hallquist. The article also give other perspectives such as the story of another woman in California who has also received death threats because she is re running for office.

In class we discussed how as reporters we need to stay away from agreeing and disagreeing when writing the articles. North, did a great job describing the issue and narrating Hallquist’s story. Even though Hallquist is a Democrat, the author does not give any clues as to what affiliation she has with what party, (though you can probably assume).

Meet Marcus Mackey,

Marcus is a senior at Morningside College, studying Mass communication. He is from College Springs, IA; a small town in the southwest corner of the state. When Marcus was asked what he would love to do after graduation, he then shared that, he is planning on working at a radio station and hopes to be a sports broadcaster.

Marcus is a fan of all sports but, his favorite sport is basketball, and he is a Texas Long Horn’s fan. Growing up he played basketball for nine years, and played football for three years while he was in high school. While he did not take his talents to the collegiate level, he does plan to keep up with it while broadcasting the basketball games on campus for our radio, and t.v. stations. Marcus is so excited to graduate and we cannot wait to hear what Marcus has in store for the world.
