Just your average football player, Jackson Perrien has learned what it takes to play through adversity to play the game he loves. 

His junior year, Jackson was playing in his State semifinal game in Sutton, Nebraska when all of a sudden one hit changed how he would play for the rest of his career. While making a tackle he tore his entire labrum, some ligaments, and indented a bone in his right shoulder. He would go on to play through the injuries for that game, but they ended up losing a close game. After a very stressful few weeks following the season, he found out he wasn’t going to be able to play basketball that year due to his injuries. With this, Jackson decided to change his thoughts on continuing to play football 

Following the news Jackson decided to wait to get surgery until after his senior year season. With this decision came some complications Jackson was working to deal with. Everyday he would report his shoulder coming out of place needing to put it in. His shoulder would come out 1 or 2 times a game as well. Jackson knew this would be the case with no surgery, but he decided to play through the pain to play the game he’s loved his whole life. When the season came to an end he got his first surgery on his shoulder. 

Following the surgery, he committed to Morningside University where he hoped his shoulder issues were put behind him. A few practices in and this was already not the case. Jackson ended up tearing his labrum even more after a tackling drill. Jackson would go on to have 2 more surgeries before his Sophomore year. Jackson has gone through a lot of adversity and it has definitely been worth it, “For Christ’s sake I’m about to get my fourth damn surgery on my shoulder to keep playing. Every step I’ve made has been worth it. I’m glad I stuck with it and hopefully I can stay healthy one of these seasons to show the work I’ve put in. 

Not only is Jackson happy he stuck with it, but so are his teammates. Some of Jackson’s closest teammates Caden Oschendorf and Cooper King were excitingly shocked that he wants to play so bad, “At this point we’re rooting for him no matter what. No one deserves it more than him. He’s been through a lot and even through that he’s a great player. I hope he gets to show what he’s got soon. 

A few surgeries later and Jackson is still playing the game he loves. Even through the pain, Jackson enjoys the time he still has playing football. He won’t let anything stop him from enjoying it a little bit longer. He’s shown toughness through it all and is looking forward to a promising junior year. This is a lesson to everyone that you can make it through anything, for the things you love.

Jeff Bezos wants to create the biggest Reef we’ve seen in a long time. 

According to  Joey Roulette of New York Times, Blue Origin, Jeff bazos’  space company, wants to team up with other companies to replace the international space station. this comes as NASA is currently seeking replacements for the 20 year old International Space Station. 

Key contributors to this project are Sierra Space and Boeing. According to Brent Sherwood, Blue Origin’s vice president, “With their help Orbital Reef plans to generate new discoveries, new products, new forms of entertainment and global awareness of Earth’s fragility and interconnectedness”. Bezos’ goal for this new space station is to hopefully bring people an jobs to space in the future.

Blue Origin looks to get help gaining revenue from wealthy tourists and other companies. Jeff Bezos has insisted on spending 1 billion dollars per year through Blue Origin on this project, but that won’t be enough to cover the cost. They want to put in 400 million dollars to help get construction underway.

Orbital Reef is only seen through drawings right now, but Bezos wants to start construction as soon as he can. Not a lot of companies are able to pull of the funding and construction for Space Stations, but Bezos looks to be one of the few to succeed. 

Vikings Running Back, Dalvin Cook, was an alleged 

News came out from Courtney Cronin of espn, Dalvin Cook was allegedly a victim of abuse from his ex-girlfriend about a year ago. She alleged broke into Cook’s house and tried to extort millions of dollars from the star running back. In a recent press conference, Cook explained how he was maced and is innocent in this case. His ex-girlfriend said that she had gone there to end things with Cook, broke into his home and eventually had to mace him because he was attacking her with a broomstick. Police were not called during the altercation and no charges were filed. Cook and the vikings aren’t too concerned about it as Cook believes the truth will come out. We heard from a Vikings fan and their thoughts on this news coming out in the middle of the season.“Viking fan quote” Cook is not going to counter sue for this incident and good news for his fantasy owners,he won’t have to sit out any games. 

In-N-Out Burger recently tried to get around a covid mandate unsuccessfully 

Eduardo Medina of new york times explained how In-N-Out burger in the San Francisco outlet failed to comply with city requirements that all restaurants check the vaccine cards of indoor diners. This caused them to shut down for a little while, yet has reopened their outside diners and takeout. In this article, Alanis Thames of New York times explained how Jackson State landed the number one recruit in the next years recruiting class. Travis Hunter decided to decommit from Florida State, a division 1 school, to go to Jackson State, a historically black college. He made his announcement live and everyone has gone crazy over the decision. Hunter says this change will “light the way for others to follow.” Deion Sanders, a former NFl star, is the head coach for Jackson State and this adds to his top ranked defense from last year. 

Here Alanis Thames was trying to speak to college football fans and players and how this decision from Tarvis Hunter changes the way of college football. She explains a lot about how this is the biggest flip in college football ever and how it could change how recruits choose where to go. I think she does a good job explaining the whole process he went through and how the public reacted. 

I believe this is news for college football fans and players. This is a big move for a top recruit to make and it could change future athletes’ decisions. It’ll be interesting to see for sure. I think the author does a good job with this article.

In this article, Golden State Warriors Star, Stephen curry, stands on top of the 3 pointer list. Stephen Curry passed Ray Allen for the all time leader in 3 pointers made. He did this in 511 fewer games. Curry is in his 13th season breaks the record with 2,977 career threes. Not only did he set the record, but he set it in the Garden, one of the most historical buildings in the NBA. Curry stated in this article, “I pride myself on shooting a high percentage,” Curry said. “I pride myself on that helping us win games. Now, I can pride myself on the longevity of getting to that number Ray set, hopefully pushing it to a number nobody can reach. I never wanted to call myself the greatest shooter until I got that record. I’m comfortable saying that now.”

The author here, Scott Cacciola, was trying to speak to any basketball fan as a lot of it was talking about Stephen Curry and his impact on the game with this record. Which also means he was trying to speak to Curry fans as well. I think he does a good job with this, however I believe the order he told the story could’ve been more clear. It felt like it was out of place at times. 

I believe this is news to sports fans in general. Curry has influenced the game with his three pointers in a big way and finally breaking the record is something a lot of people would probably like to see. I think the author did a good job explaining the whole story and it was well descriptive.

A 13 year old, Alexis Spier, was hiking at Arches National Park in Utah with her brother, mom, and dad. They had hiked nearly all day, until it started to rain slightly and darken up. Alexis and her family decided it was time to head back to their car. 

As they started walking a little further, they noticed they couldn’t see the pebbled trail due to the rain. They began to walk over these slick rocks trying to find where to go. Her dad went higher than the rest of the family to get a better look. Alexis heard her dad from above scream “there’s fucling nothing here!”. It was here that Alexis became terrified. 

When her dad got down from the rocks he mentioned that they might have to spend the night out in National Park. Alexis began to think about all the dangerous creatures that could be around if that was the case, a bear, mountain lions, snakes, and even scorpions. Her brother started giving her a hard time saying the circumstance isn’t all so bad. It began to get even darker and the family was about to set up camp; Alexis was terrified. 

Moments later these 2 guys came out of nowhere and shouted to Alexis and her family if they needed help. The 2 guys help them back to the entrance and they didn’t have to spend the night in the desert. 

Alexis told me this story shows how she feeds off her dads emotions a lot. If he gets scared and a little angry, it only makes her more scared and worried about the situation. Even with this she said she feels safe around her family so that is another point around the story.

The author here is trying to talk to Viking fans, but really any NFL fan interested in the players. I thought this article was well written out as she explained the whole situation pretty much. She explained Cook’s side of the story and his ex girlfriends. She also explained the NFL rules for this situation which is important for the readers to understand. 

I thought this was a good article, but I’m not sure if it was news quite yet. I think it might be news if it was after Cook was proven innocent or guilty, but right now I’m not sure if this is really news. It was a well written article, but it will be news in the future.

In this article Todd Archer explains how Ceedee Lamb has been fined nearly $50,000 this year by the NFL. This comes from stuff as silly like untucked jerseys, socks too low, and more. On September 27th he was fined $5,150 for an untucked jersey and $15,450 the following week for the same thing. The next fine would be $46,350. 

Lamb has some issues with these recent fines because he wasn’t fined for any of this as a rookie last year. Lamb said he hasn’t worn his jersey any differently than last year as well. 

The author is trying to speak to NFL fans in general in this story. I think he does a good job explaining the fines Ceedee Lamb has been getting and giving us money amounts to show it. However, he could’ve explained a little more how the rules might’ve changed from last year to this year. In the article he gives a lot of quotes from Ceedee Lamb and his thoughts on the whole thing, but what were the actual rules in the NFL. He didn’t explain if he was actually breaking any of the rules. 

I thought this article was good information that some people would be interested in, but I don’t think it was well written. I think the author just didn’t have enough of the right information. I wanted to know the rules he was breaking and more thoughts from the NFL on it. However it is a good article to see how people are getting fined more for an untucked jersey than some other worse situations.

t’s interesting to know that the same story can be perceived two different ways judging by how the news is given. Mark Zukenbrug is trying to turn facebook into the metaverse, but the media handles the story a little differently than the news article. 

In the news article that I read, Mark Zukenburg is trying to make facebook the metaverse for the future. They tell this is an essay almost format by telling us exactly what happened in the timeline of it all. By doing this it felt as the story was on a more complicated topic. Also with the news article the quotes that were added I didn’t feel the connection as deeply as I did in the media’s story. 

In the media story, there was more of a story told about how the metaverse is a cover up for facebook’s problems going on. It told more of a story of how the metaverse has nothing to do with anything other than covering up the issues inside the company. The questions asked to the people are about facebook and how it’s handling things and not about the metaverse itself. It told a different story in a way than I just heard on the news. 

Reading and hearing the story showed me that you can come out with two completely different outlooks on something when you learn it in different ways. News outlets take different viewpoints on stories and that is something I learned through this assignment.
