Stuart Scott Speech

Posted at 11:45 am under Uncategorized

Stuart Scott, an ESPN sports broadcaster, gives powerful words to motivate those who are fighting a tough battle while accepting the Jimmy V. Perseverance Award.

Stuart Scott received the Jimmy V. Perseverance Award last night in the NOKIA Theatre in Los Angeles, California. While receiving this award, he felt like he had a duty. Twenty-one years ago, Jim Valvano stated, “Don’t give up, don’t ever give up.” Stuart now believes that after receiving this award that it is his responsibility to live by those words. It also helps him battle with his battle through cancer which he has had since 2007.

“You beat cancer by how you live, why you live and in the manner in which you live, ” stated Scott.

Scott believes that it’s about the journey and what you make of it. It doesn’t have to be just yourself who battles the cancer, it can be your friends and loved ones too. He emphasizes how his journey has not been a solo venture, and that it requires support to battle.

“I can’t ever give up because I can’t leave my daughters,” Scott adds.

Scott states that the best thing he has ever done is be a dad. He expressed his love to his two daughters and believes he wouldn’t be where he is today without them. As he concluded his speech, his youngest daughter came up and gave him a hug, while the huge audience applauded in the background, filled with emotion.

The first two grafs work together pretty well as a broadcast lead. Was that intentional? Of course it was.

    Nicely organized throughout.
