How to Manage Credit Card Debt When Holiday Shopping.

Credit card balances are starting to get back up to levels like they were pre-pandemic. Card delinquency has been relatively low, but is now starting to increase as well. This leads to credit card debt when holiday shopping. Young adults need to remember that they don’t have to buy expensive and fancy gifts. It’s about being reunited with our families. One way to manage credit card debt is to set a budget in advance. Another way is to buy one present that benefits a whole family, rather than buying something for each individual. Something to keep in mind is to pay more than the required minimum payment for your credit card bill. It will save you from paying extra on interest.

This is news because the holidays are right around the corner. Many people are going shopping for their loved ones and might experience credit card debt. Reading this article might help them be proactive. News values used in this article are human-interest, timeliness, and possibly impact and conflict. Impact and conflict might be new values because if people don’t take action early, they are going to be paying off their debt for a while and not have enough money to make other payments.

Christmas at Morningside tickets available beginning Monday, Oct. 17

I would consider this news because many people from Morningside and Sioux City attend this event as well as parents. So it falls under human-interest.

Potential audiences are Morningside students, Sioux City citizens, and parents of students.

The purpose of the story is to promote this event and let everyone know that the tickets went on sale Oct. 17 and to get them before they sell out.

The readers of the story gain the benefit of getting their ticket early, and not waiting until last second when they could possibly be sold out.

The benefit is getting to enjoy a Christmas performance while the performers benefit would be having some support from an audience.

Morningside gains some attention towards their choir and band program showing off all of their talented singers and musicians.

Take a break and UNWIND. with Zach Hefty.

Zach Hefty, a Morningside University student and baseball player, recently started his own clothing line called UNWIND.

Hefty used to struggle with motivation in life and once he found it, he wanted to share that motivation with others. The mission for his company is to “strive to motivate educated individuals to complete their goals and live a better life.”

Along with this clothing line, Hefty regularly posts on a blog and social media to try and motivate others to achieve their goals.

The feedback he has gotten so far has exceeded his expectations. A few customers have reached out, saying that they loved the idea and that is was just the thing they needed to get that extra push in their day-to-day lives.

This feeling has made Hefty feel very accomplished and glad that he started this journey to help and motivate others.

Dwier Brown makes special guest appearance for Miracle League of Sioux City Fundraiser.

On Tuesday night, Dwier Brown, the actor that plays Ray Kinsella’s father in the ‘Field of Dreams’ movie, was in Sioux City to help out with the Miracle League fundraiser. Dwier Brown also got the opportunity to play catch with Kevin Negaard who runs the Wanna Have a Catch? campaign which supports the Miracle League. It was Kevin’s 301st consecutive time playing catch this year while raising awareness for the foundation. Dwier helped raise a lot of money for the Miracle League which allows them to continue to grow.

This is news because many Iowans know about the ‘Field of Dreams’ movie which takes place in Iowa. It is cool to read and see that an actor from the movie is helping out locally. So it covers the news value of uniqueness and proximity right there. It also covers the value of prominence because Dwier Brown is famous in Iowa.

Taryn- Responsible

Taryn Davidson’s day to day responsibilities don’t just stop after class, they continue all afternoon and night at Arena Fit in Sioux City.

Taryn must be responsible when it comes to her job at Arena Fit. She is the social media coordinator and graphic designer for the business.

Taryn has to communicate and post things on time, specifically before big deadlines. Some physical pieces she works on are brochures, banners, and apparel. Most of her ideas spark from shooting actual content in the office.

Recently, Taryn worked on a project for college football trivia recently where she had to coordinate with others to get the questions set up for the event as well as the correct music to fit the mood. Her responsibilities didn’t stop there. She then had to post on social media to get the word out about the event, post on their app, and prepare the physical location.

Tom Brady recently passed 100,000 passing yards in his entire career.

This stat also includes his postseason passing yards, because that adds an additional 47 games for him. Typically in North America, postseason stats aren’t included so he really reached 87,067 yards which still holds first place by 6,000 yards in the regular season.

Last Sunday when Brady and the Buccaneers beat the Rams, Brady recorded his 43rd, 4th quarter comeback and his 55th game winning drive.

When the media asked Brady how he felt about reaching 100,000 passing yards, he sort of brushed it off.

“It’s all about the win, man,” he said. “Never cared about that.”

This is news because this is a new record in the NFL and no one has ever reached 6-digits in passing yards. It goes to show how dominant Tom Brady has been in this league for so many years. Many football fans will find this very interesting because they like Brady or maybe because they want their favorite quarterback to try and reach this milestone. Tom Brady is also a well-known professional athlete which also makes this news. The news values in mind would include timeliness, prominence, human-interest, and novelty.

Hi, I’m Wade Canaday and …

Today’s stories include a look at how patients with disabilities are being turned away by doctors, Dancing With the Stars eliminations, and some statistics from the recently released Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

Doctors are turning away potential patients with disabilities.

A professor of medicine at Harvard has heard from patients with disabilities that “healthcare is substandard”.

The names of the doctors and physicians were left anonymous to try and get them to admit that they treat patients with disabilities differently in a recent study.

Many doctors had a lot to say about patients in wheelchairs, saying their offices didn’t accommodate a scale to weigh them.

Communication disabilities were also seen to be a problem. One doctor said they were losing money every time they saw a deaf patient because they had to hire a translator.

Carter Ades, Morningside Nursing student, had this to say about the topic…

“A patient with disabilities deserves healthcare just like anybody else does.”

Patients with disabilities were then interviewed confirming that many of those issues are true.

On a different note,

Dancing With the Stars had a double elimination last Monday.

The theme for the night was a throwback to the 90’s.

Wayne Brady, Charli D’Amelio, and Gabby Windey all earned perfect scores.

The second half of the night consisted of relay dances, where there was an assigned judge who had to choose a winner each round.

The couple with the lowest combined scores and votes was Heidi D’Amelio and her partner Artem. They were immediately sent home.

Morningside Dancer, Samantha Snyder, was shocked to hear about Heidi’s departure…

“I was not aware that it was a double elimination night, but I was definitely shocked when Heidi D’Amelio left. I thought she was at the top of the leaderboard and she continuously did well throughout the weeks and I was definitely surprised she left.”

Vinny Guadagnino and his partner also ended up being eliminated to conclude the double elimination night.

Last but not least,

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 reaches 1 billion dollars in revenue in 10 days after its recent release.

Modern Warfare 2 made 1 billion dollars faster than any previous Call of Duty game. The previous record-holder was Black Ops II when it took 15 days to reach 1 billion dollars.

This stat follows Activision’s previous statement about how the game grossed over 800 million dollars in the first weekend.

Modern Warfare 2 is not quite the highest grossing in that period of time though, with GTA V grossing 1 billion dollars in three days.

Call of Duty players have collectively logged more than 200 million hours of game time and played more than 1 billion matches within these 10 days.

Morningside student, Joseph Harris, was asked about his favorite part of the game…

“Honestly, probably just playing with the boys.”

Warzone 2.0 is set to release November 16th, which is also expected to have a big launch.

Those were the top stories today, thanks for listening and I’ll see you next time.

As Dollar Strengthens, U.S. Students in Europe Feel the Benefits.

This article from The New York Times talks about how the euro and pound are exchanging at historic lows against the US dollar. This means that the US dollar is stronger and worth more overseas. Many students are deciding to study abroad because that means their tuition is less expensive. The article goes into detail and interviews specific students who are studying abroad. One student noticed that her groceries were way cheaper in Florence, Italy than they were in Los Angeles. Overall, students stated that they chose to study abroad because of the drastic decrease in tuition. Many thought it was a dream that would never come true.

This is news because it might interest some students who are having financial troubles as well as students who are looking to study in a different part of the world for a new experience. It is also news because it is showing the public how the economy in the Europe is struggling with the decrease in their currency against the US dollar.
