Doctors are turning away potential patients with disabilities.
A professor of medicine at Harvard has heard from patients with disabilities that “healthcare is substandard”
A recent study was conducted consisting of many doctors and specialists divided into three focus groups. The names of the doctors and physicians are left anonymous to try and get them to admit that they treat patients with disabilities differently.
Many doctors had a lot to say about patients in wheelchairs, saying their offices didn’t accommodate a scale to weigh them.
Communication disabilities were also seen to be a problem. One doctor said they were losing money every time they saw a deaf patient because they had to hire a translator.
Patients with disabilities were then interviewed confirming that all of those things are true.
