Stuart Scott: ‘So, live. Live! Fight like hell!’, Jimmy V Perseverance Award, ESPYs.

Last night, Stuart Scott, a well known ESPN broadcaster, received the Jimmy V Perseverance award. An award given to a member of the sporting world who overcame big obstacles through perseverance and determination.

In his speech, Stuart talked about his battle with cancer. He pointed out multiple times that this fight is not an individual one, but one that is shared with thousands of people on twitter who support him, the amazing people from ESPN, his family, his friends.

“When you get too tired to fight then lay down and rest and let somebody else fight for you,” he said.

Further, Stuart quoted Jim Valvano, the man who the award got named after, “Don’t give up, don’t ever give up”. This is the moto which Scott now lives by. He will never stop fighting.

“When you die, that does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live and in the manner in which you live,” Stuart Scott said.

Stuart will keep fighting for his family, his two daughters who are his ‘heartbeat’. The best thing that ever happened to him. He ended his speech by calling up his only present daughter Sydni out of the audience to give him a hug because “I need one”.

Nicely done, Marnix. Well organized. Good transitions. Some good use of paraphrase.

    Cool.
