The fun girl meets the miracle of life… accidentally

It is funny and interesting how a person full of wild, fun, somewhat exotic energy can be turned into a much less bright, outgoing type of person. People love going out and getting to enjoy the bright lights, loud music, and hangovers. This is mostly true if you are young, fun and you are not pregnant. Most women experience something magical, and that is the experience of giving life to another human. Alysha Maxfield was the life of the party; her wild side always attracted the most random male attention. There is something about her piercing dark brown eyes, short brown hair which is typically always straight, and her spunky attitude that makes her a really attractive fun person to hang out with. She is still a fun person, but she cannot do the things that she used to. At 26 years old, she started dating her new boyfriend Corry, a small-town Pennsylvania boy who is very much in love with her. After a few months of dating they used their creative side and decided to make a baby, accidentally that is. The news hit and all her friends and family could not be more stoked about the news. The miracle of life had just hit Alysha straight in the face and she was freaking out. During her interview she said, “I was crying and read the pregnancy test wrong, I thought it was the opposite of what I thought I had read, but it was wrong.” This is how she found out she was carrying what she now calls “nugget”.

As I sat down to interview Alysha, at her somewhat old looking apartment, I started noticing some changes in her appearance. Her skin was a bright as the sun, she once had somewhat of an acne problem, but this time when I saw her it was different, the skin on her face looked flawless as if it was made out of plastic or had been painted. Alysha has always been a tiny person, cute and small, and at 19 weeks you would never believe she is pregnant. Her little bump is as big as the food baby you get once a year after a big thanksgiving dinner.

She was curious to know why I was interviewing her, I told her it was for a class and I found her to be a very interesting person and wanted to know more about her pregnancy and how she is handling it. She sat in her brown couch, which looked quite comfy, her small self, sank and looked even smaller in such large couch. She said, “You’re so weird, I’m not that interesting.” And laughed as if she had just told a hilarious joke. She said, “well, what do you want to know” with somewhat of a sassy tone. So, I asked her what has been the hardest part about being pregnant, and she said “I keep forgetting I’m pregnant honestly, until I get the weird cravings and random mood swings.” She laughed and that is when her boyfriend actually called so she had to answer her phone. I yelled out, “Hi Corry can I ask you something?”, Alysha put him on speaker and I asked him what he is excited for with this pregnancy, he said he was super excited to teach he or she to work on cars. Corry is a professional car racer and has a passion for cars, he said that even if it is a girl he will teach her how to change a tire. I asked the both of them if they wanted a boy or a girl and their bet is that it is going to be a girl, which is what everyone is hoping for. Alysha mentioned that she will not know until December 22nd, which happens to be Corry’s birthday. Corry had to go and hung up the phone because he had to go back to work.

Alysha and I continued to talk but the conversation moved from pregnancy to our work drama, which is a typical thing to talk about because work is sometimes too dramatic. During our conversation Alysha also mentioned her baby shower, her eyes lit up with excitement because that is the one thing she is looking forward. She said, “I’m excited for the baby shower because I get to have free sh*t for nugget”, we both laughed, then she brought up the whole who is planning the baby shower. She told me it had to be me and our friend Whittney, because she trusts us to make it “fun and fresh”. The conversation wrapped up and I was on my way home.

I called our friend Whittney and asked her if she could talk to me for a bit about Alysha. Her and Whittney have been friends for eight years and are best friends, she said she was so happy for her and she could not wait to meet nugget. I told her about planning the baby shower and she screamed really loud with excitement, she said, “Omg I can’t wait to be the drunk aunt with you at the shower”. We laughed so hard, because we have the running joke that we will be forever single and at our friend’s kids activities being the drunk aunts. Whittney said that, Alysha is so ready to be a mom and she could not have picked a better guy to go on that adventure with than Corry.

The girl that was once the fun, going out, drinking on the weekend type, is now getting ready and half way to meet her little angel, “nugget”. She has been a great blessing to everyone around her, because she is now the sober ride to most of her friends. It is funny how things circle around, because her friend Kaylee used to be the sober driver for her when Kaylee was pregnant. The life of the party will be resumed and continued once nugget meets the world, although it won’t be like it once was.
