Media Comparison

I reviewed the story about the School shooting in St. Louis. The story starts with the anchorman giving the information on what happened at the scene. The transition from the anchor man to the man in the filling was very smooth with eh transition.

What I have learned from this is the anchorman gives the lead of the story and baseline information that a person needs to understand the rest of the content that is being displayed. Before the news transition to the report on the scene, the anchorman restates the question that is trying to be answered. The broadcast will periodically stop and give some facts on the screen or show footage from the sight.

In the written article it stays on the same path. The lead is the start of all news articles and there it would have been around if not the same thing the anchorman said. What I see as the major difference in both are the bodies of the information. The news broadcast will give you the bare minimum of the information that there is, on the other hand, the article will have the majority of the information but still lead with the most important in front.

After reviewing both forms of news I consider reading the nws is more beneficial because you are not only getting the baseline facts like you are in the news broadcast. You are getting the details of the situation. Although reading or watching them one you will still get the same information you need.

Reflection Assignment

Starting this class I was not expecting this much writing was going to be done let alone the specific type of writing. I have had to change my way of thinking and writing from my norm to a different way for this class.

In our most recent article, we had to construct, I was most concerned about the layout and the information that was being given. News is all about grabbing the reader’s attention and giving all they need to know in a few sentences hence the lead. It’s what comes after I struggle. Mantling a reader’s focus in the story is seen as an art form. I find myself stuck in the body of the report more than anything deciding what is nonsense and what will work.

While working on the draft I was noticing I was putting repeating sentences and claims throughout the article. Instead of repeating statements, I went back out to interview the team to gather more information to further my point in more than one way as I was explaining. Doing this made the story have more depth and more information than the bare minimum. Getting the second interview was not easy, so in the future, I will be looking to get all the information, so I don’t have to go back and have a chance not to get the interview aging.

I tend to focus strongly on the writing portion of the Article thinking it was going to be the most difficult for me to perform. When it turns out the Interviewing process was the most difficult for me because I did not retain as much information as I needed to write the article to the best of my abilities. When diving into the assignment I would think about how to write it and write an upside-down pyramid to plan out the information as we learned in class. Being unfamiliar with the specific structure of writing and having more experience with interviews I used most of the time and recourses to make sure the paper flowed correctly and maintain the readers’ focus. If I switched my focus from it not being completely on the writing and more on the interview, I believed my article would have had a stronger outcome that was produced. The interviews went great overall I just did not retain enough information, so I had to go back for a second interview with the team to be able to finish the article to the standers that were needed.

The Upside-down Pyramid in my opinion is one of the best diagrams you can use when you’re writing a news article. The reason why I say that is because it breaks down what to write in order. Before I start any news article I try and use the upside-down pyramid diagram to lay out my article before I even put it on a word document. Knowing what Is important what is not so important and then just some filler. It’s very important to know when you are getting ready to start writing so your paper doesn’t get jumbled up with random facts or bursts of information. The pyramid gives a nice easy flow to gather the reader’s attention and give them the importance of what you’re talking about and leads them into the information that may be needed to clarify the topic.

This article has helped open up how to write newsy. Going out and being the man in the field gathering first-hand information was a great experience for me and I hope for the rest of the class. The communication and writing skills I have learned during this assignment have helped me open the doors to a lot more capabilities for my personal life and the future of my career. The class has thought me ways of thinking and writing that I would never do unless I took this class. I am getting a stronger and more consistent writer as I feel.

Stuart Scott the Speech that will leave you in tears.

Stuart Scott yesterday gave a heart renching speech after receiving the jimmy v award at the Espys.

“Every Day I am reminded that our life’s journey is really about people who touched us.” Stuart Scott has been fighting cancer and was very passionate about his speech that he gave yesterday. He connected with the crowd in a way that struck tears in their eyes leaving the Auditorium speechless. Stuart Scott is an Espn sports anchor and a well-known by many in his field. He was diagnosed with cancer and was in fear of not even making it to this award show, but left the crowd in tears when he left.

The great use of the quote from Coach Valvano “Don’t Give up, don’t ever give up.” Is words that any human can take in any situation there in and push and strive to get over any block that may be in there way.

One thing I want to leave off with Stuart Scott “so the people that I love mt friends and familt, hated to fight, “My girlfriend slept in very uncomfortable hospital caught by my side every night. She could fight. The people that I love did last week what they always do visit, they talk to him, they listen to they set silence sometimes they love and that’s another one of the components of V Foundation. This whole fight this journey thing is not a solo venture. This is something that requires support.” Your never alone in dark times Stuart stressed it requires support you cant do it alone. After he all of this he left with giving love and gratitude to his daughters and his family his main support threw the journey of cancer.

Stuart Scott gave a speech that will not only be remember till the end of time but will help any person to get threw what they are fighting and shine light at the end of the tunnel. “Don’t Give up, Don’t ever give up” -Coach Valvano

Team Liquids try to bring their rosters and fandoms. Article #7

Building a great fanbase is crucial for an organization and its long-term abilities. But in the realm of Esports, most fans tend to support certain players and where ever they go. The puzzle here is converting these fans into fans of the organization.

Team Liquid might have found the answer to their way of generating more fans in the organization. Their marketing team came up with a campaign called “Wave of One” but a campaign that brings other fandoms with the multiple games the organization has and different regions is like playing with fire. The Esports Insider wrote “Perhaps most notable is the
the organization’s VALORANT and League of Legends teams this year — one tells the story of a European wildcard, the other a North American ‘super team’.”

Teams Liquid’s Josie Browns the Senior Vice President for content and marketing had a difficult time choosing the rosters that would be featured in the campaign. It was soon decided to utilize the team’s largest titles such as LOL and Valorant with 5 more to follow up.

The team paid attention to showing diversity amongst the rosters as well as the fan base to give a universal feel to people no matter the region or who they identify as. “Wave of One” Is a big marketing campaign that may change the fanbase for team liquid and inspire a lot of other organizations to do the same.

Team liquid is changing the fan base of Esport and needs to be heard about. I believe the reason why this is news is that this is something all organizations and fans can do. This will bring the community closer than it is now and generate better revenue for future events.

Do Core memories shape you. (in class assignment)

Look back and remember what is a core memory of you childhood? Now lock it in and ask yourself what does it say about you?

Core memories was first seen from the movie in 2015 called Inside Out, Core memories are seen as 5 or so most important memories that you have collected. The thought of these events are so powerful when you experience them instantly shape your personality, behaviors and sense of self.

Now the question is do these memories exists or is it another trick that your brain is pulling on you? It Is common that we use memories to construct a sense of self and they support our psychological wellbeing, but science suggests the notions of a “core Memory” is faulty.

We as humans can’t simply predict what will become a core memory. Although we do remember emotional event’s more than neutral events, we don’t get to choose our memories. That ties in that core memories are no more accurate than others. Core memories are major life turning events but is sill portrayed as snapshot of the past but they can easily be mistaken with a term called flash ball memories where you Remember something important in a very specific time.

While core memory is not life changing but shows how valuable our memories are. These core memories help’s gives us a window to our former selves and dose help with some decision making but dose shape your whole personality.

Overwatch 2 may Make or Break Morningside’s Season

The Morningside Overwatch Team is in a pickle after the Overwatch 2 release. After release, the game went through some difficult changes.

Overwatch is a hero FPS game that is highly played both casually and competitively. The game has been out for 6 years, and soon recently got a sequel to the game leaving Overwatch 1 in the past of the forgotten. Now leaving Morningside in a scramble to get the team ready before the game a week after release.

The game moving from the original 6v6 to a 5v5 had some hard changes to the final roster of the team. I had the chance to speak with a couple of the players from the overwatch team.

Speaking with Ben the team’s starting tank had some words on how the team is looking.

“It’s kind of hard to say because we do have a brand-new player but then we also have someone swapping to a new role. From the one scrim that we had, we look pretty good, but I don’t know yet.”

Bringing on a new player to the team is putting stress on the rest of the 4 to pick up the slack that there might be with the new player, making it look like a difficult season up ahead.

The game rather did not have a smooth release not only for the team but for the overall player base of the game. There were game-breaking bugs and super long queue times just loading up the game. Leaving it very difficult for anyone to get a chance to play let alone collegiate teams to practice.

Gavin a DPS for the team was upset when he states “The company needs to get their act together or the NECC needs to reschedule the game for a new date.” How do they expect teams to be ready after such a difficult launch? Well, the short answer is they don’t. After multiple complaints on Twitter and in the official NECC Discord about these circumstances the dates remain the same.

The game underwent a lot of reworks considering the change to a 5v5 and that also includes the heroes you play as. As expected, there will be some overpowered heroes. Asking Engle bird the team’s healer he said, “right now the most difficult thing to work with right now are these heroes there is no balance whatsoever.”

Overwatch has yet to make major balance changes to the game resulting in the team comps that are being run. The game relies on counter picking but from the looks of it, some heroes are hard to counter.

I asked Gaven what’s one thing the team needs to work on going into this season to be a dominant force in the league. He responded with “playing like a team, there are a lot of ways you can get punished for in this game so sticking with the team and the heal comp will win games.”

Overwatch is a fast game when it comes to movement and action. For example, if a DPS character pushes too far in their flank, the enemy team can turn on you in a sec and melt you down leaving the team to a 4v5 and resulting in pulling the team back out of the fight.

The Morningside team placed second in both spring and summer league and made it to nationals. Morningside is considered a dominant team in the Necc. The coach of the Morningside Overwatch team Quentin Charbonneau had some things to say about the team.

“If the team can perform as well if not better in this upcoming season, I can see the team going to great lengths and a very good chance at the title this year. It all depends on what the devs and my team will pull through this season.”

Coach Quinton has a lot of hope in the team this year to get the championship. He mentioned the Devs, they are the developers of the game and are responsible for any future changes to the game. In recent reports, the Developers are taking into heavy consideration the changes the community wants and are acting on them fast.

A report that was published by IGN states “ Overwatch 2, and the developers have come up with post-launch updates for the title. These updates will help the player understand the changes coming to hero balance, map pool, competitive mode, and gameplay.”

The Overwatch 2 devs are hard at work on getting the game the fixes it needs to make the game feel more balanced and make the playing field at a wider range considering what heroes are overpowered. After this work Morningside will have to change the way, they play but it will change for the better.

The Morningside Overwatch team has had a rough start to the season due to the game being unplayable upon launch. The Morningside team is fast at work on getting the team together and being able to play as a full unit before their first match of the season.

“The Overwatch team has been through some rough times, but I have seen year after year the team overperforms to what is expected.”- Quentin Charbonneau

The Straw of Chocolate.

As I was handed a joint wait this is not a joint it’s a stick. This stick looks to be rapped with a harden shell and filled with a thick almost creamy chocolate.  the outer shell of the stick is looked to be raped in some form brown Leaf that is harden over time. When I took the first crunch, I was shocked on the assortment of flavors that went over my taste buds. The chocolate melted on my tongue and the crunch of the shell gave a nice addition. I can’t give a statement on the after math but it might not be pleasant.
