With His 62nd Home Run, Aaron Judge Stands Alone in A.L.

Aaron Judge has passed Roger Maris’ and Babe Ruth’s American League record for home runs.

Last Thursday Aaron Judge beat Ruth’s record and tied Maris’ record. Five games later, he finally belted his 62nd home run of the season to beat Maris’ record.

“It’s a big relief,” Judge said of hitting the home run after the chase and all the attention focused on him. “I think everybody can finally sit down and watch some ball games.” (NY Times, 2022)

Judge struck out in his next at bat, later exiting the game.

Judge had bet on himself early in the season. He turned down a 213.5 million dollar deal with the Yankees. After this incredible season, he has increased his value for next season.

This is news because it is a new record in Major League Baseball, which does not happen often. It interests people who like baseball because no one has ever hit 62 home runs in the American League before. It’s newsworthy because it consists of human-interest, and it’s odd. Baseball fans would love to read about this and of course it is odd because it has never happened before.

As long as baseball keeps coming up with new stats, there will be new records broken. Tallest right handed pitcher to hit a walk-off homerun in game five of the divisional playoffs. Someone will know who that is.

    Good news comment!
