By Katie Miller — Morningside University Humanities Speaker Series will feature Shelby Prindaville, an accomplished artist and educator, in an upcoming lecture titled “Clay and Fire: Exploring Raku Ceramics.” This event will occur on Tuesday, February 18, at 7 p.m. in the Weikert Auditorium. This event will be free and open to the public.
Prindaville, who is the chair of the Art Department, will discuss raku ceramics, a Japanese pottery style known for its unique textures and contrast. Using her experience with glazing techniques and research from workshops, she will provide insight into the creative and technical aspects of ceramics.
Outside her role at Morningside, Prindaville’s artistic career expands to international exhibitions including Madrid, Athens, New York, and Los Angeles. Her work is held in both private and public collections. Her approach earned her residencies and accolades, including selection as a World Wildlife Fund tour artist at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine and being named the first artist-in-residence.
Currently, Prindaville is the Director of the Helen Levitt and Eppley Art Galleries, who is a strong advocate for art education and creativity. Her discussion will not only highlight raku ceramics but also the importance of artistic exploration.
