By Katie Miller — The Morningside University of Visual and Performing Arts will present the All-America Concert Band in its upcoming performance, Voices of America, on Sunday, February 23, at 3 p.m. in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Ave. Admission will be free and a family-friendly event open to those on campus and Sioux City’s community.
Under the direction of Dr. Christopher Brandt, the concert will demonstrate America’s musical history through a variety of pieces: Black Granite by James Hosay, inspired by the Vietnam Memorial; A Movement for Rosa by Mark Camphouse, dedicated to civil rights activist Rosa Parks; and the famous Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa. Other works composed by Percy Grainger, Frank Ticheli, Omar Thomas, and Christopher Nelson will also be performed.
Guest conductor Bob Carlson will accompany the ensemble for the tribute to America’s heritage.
