Art Splash gives art opportunities in Siouxland

by Tracie Tuttle–A big crowd, amazing art, and much more were all part of the 26th annual Art Center’s Art Splash.

The event takes place every year over the Labor Day weekend. Families are invited to immerse themselves in many different forms of art. As usual, Art Splash had something for everyone; from live musical entertainment to tie-dying t-shirts for kids.

Art Splash is a perfect place for artists and art enthusiasts alike to see the art of over 70 different artists from all over the country. Art ranged from paintings, metal work, ceramics, and more that were available to purchase.

For artists, it was a great way to meet other artists and see what kind of art they create.

Makaelyn Glienke, a senior photography and advertising major, said, “It was really cool to see the different styles of photography at Art Splash and see what other photographers are doing.”

Other highlights from Art Splash included several live musical performances from bands like Lil Red and the Medicated Moose Band and The Ruralists. There were also traveling performances among the artist booths by Paul Imholte playing original songs.

Kids had several opportunities to stay busy, whether they chose to jump in the inflatable bouncy houses or even help paint an actual car.

Overall, the event was a success in the Siouxland community, making art accessible to everyone, despite the pouring rain on Saturday.

A recommendation for next year, according to senior video game and animation development major Wanying Chen, that “everyone, artists and non-artists included, should stop and chat with the artists and talk about their art; learn more about what they create.”

If you have the chance, consider checking out next year’s Art Splash. If you want to see more artists in action, check out the upcoming Alley Art Festival on September 21 in downtown Sioux City.
