Couple Shooting

An argument over macaroni salad leads to gunshots between a newlywed couple.

38-year-old Laurette Kenny Brunson gets shot by her new husband Richard Brunson. The shooting happened at 5 pm on the property of the couple.

The couple was married at 2 pm the day before the shooting took place. The incident occurred when Laurette threw a plate of leftover macaroni salad at Richard, which then led to Richard shooting Laurette. The neighbor heard the shots and called the police. By the time police arrived Richard was gone.

Richards’s whereabouts are still unknown and Laurette was shot in the abdomen but her condition is satisfactory.

Media Comparison

The story is about Kanye West getting kicked out of Sketchers headquarters after coming unannounced. The print story is from AP News and the broadcast story is from CBS.

Both stories have mostly the same content, but the broadcast went into West a little deeper. The broadcast talked a little more about West recent controversies. The print story stayed on the topic for the whole story, only talking about him getting escorted by sketchers.

Both stories had quoted, the print had a quote from the executives inside the sketchers facility, and the broadcast story had a quote from a player from West’s students from his school. The broadcast also paraphrased what the company said about West coming into the facility.

The broadcast used many pictures of West when talking about the story. They showed him with Adidas, who West was formally partnered with, and they used him infront of the school he created.

I found it interesting that the headline of the story in the broadcast was about West getting kicked out of the sketchers facility, but deviated and talked about other things. The print only talked about their headline and seemed like an easier read.

Stuart Scott

Stuart Scott delivered an incredible speech last night at the ESPYs, that reminded everyone how to view battles through life.

Scott accepted the Jimmy V perseverance award at the ESPYs, for his fight against cancer. Scott is an anchor for ESPN, who is well known for his slang and use of catchphrases. Scott was diagnosed with cancer in 2007 and has been battling it ever since.

In an emotional speech, Scott addressed the crowd on how to fight cancer, not let it dictate how you live your life. Scott said, “When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live.”

Scott said throughout the speech that the reason he has been able to fight for so long was because of the people around him. He would not be there without the support of his loved ones. “So, live. Live. Fight like hell. And when you get too tired to fight then lay down and rest and let somebody else fight for you.”

Scott ended the speech by addressing the two people that mean the most to him, his two daughters. “I love you guys more than I will ever be able to express. You two are my heartbeat. I am standing on this stage here tonight because of you.” After he said this, he told his youngest daughter to come up on the stage and hug him and told everyone to have a great rest of their night and lives.

NBA Referee Dies

NBA Referee Tony Brown died after losing a fight to stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Brown reffed for over 20 years in the NBA and reffed over 1,100 games.

Brown found out in April of 2021 that he had cancer. He battled cancer and was even able to start reffing NBA games again, but went back to treatment.

Brown reffed an NBA finals game and two All-Star games, and a handful of WNBA final games. He will be remembered as a great referee and an outstanding human being.

I believe this is news because this was an NBA ref that is very well known around the NBA community, and it is a sad moment for all NBA fans.

This is news to NBA fans, and this article is directed toward them.

Buisness Scavanger Hunt

Telsa stockholders worried about current state of the company.

Telsa investors are scared because of the current recession within the company. Once being valued within the trillion-dollar club, now worth around 700 billion.

Elon Musk is telling investors not to fret, as they still intend to make the goals they have predicted in the past. Musk tweeted out saying, I will not let you down, no matter what it takes. New York Times reported that Telsa sold roughly 20,000 fewer cars than they made last quarter.

Can Anyone save what is going on in Lincoln?

The Nebraska Cornhuskers just fired head coach Scott Frost, and they are looking for someone to bring them back to the glory days.

Frost was hired in December of 2017, and his time with the Huskers was not what fans predicted. After leading UCF to an amazing 13-0 record in his second season with the team, Huskers fans envisioned him as the savior coach they were looking for.

Scott led the huskers to an embarrassing 16-31 record during his four-year stint with the team. Scott was fired after a loss to FCS school Georgia Southern, in which they fell 45-42.

In his last press conference as a Nebraska Husker, Scott said, “I appreciate the people that are with us.” This press conference resembled his coaching career with the huskers, disappointing.

Omaha, Nebraska native Tyson Gordon, Tyson said he had high hopes for Scott at first but after year three, the selfish mindset of Coach Frost showed. Tyson went to the powerhouse of the FCS, North Dakota State University, and played there for two years. He then transferred to Morningside University to play basketball in his junior year. Tyson was recruited by Scott, as he led his high school team, Omaha Skutt Catholic, to two state titles. Tyson was glad he does not end up at Nebraska, saying that Frost was not the best at recruiting and staying connected with him throughout his recruiting process.

Nebraska now has its sights set on new prospects as new coaches. Mickey Joseph is at the top of most of the coaching boards, as he is currently serving as the interim head coach for the moment. This is Joseph’s first year with the Huskers, as he was on the LSU staff that won the national championship. He was an assistant coach and wide receivers coach there and was the assistant coach while frost was in Lincoln.

Joseph seems like the fan favorite, for most Huskers fans, with many believing he can bring the Huskers to the place fans are looking for. We will see how he finishes the year off, taking over the team after Frost’s disappointing start.

Morningside assistant coach Joel Haveman believes that Mickey can get the job done for the huskers. Haveman is a Nebraska native, and being the assistant basketball coach at Morningside University, knows what it takes to help coach a team. Haveman believes that the transition would be smoothest with someone inside the program and that Mickey already has the trust of a lot of the players. Haveman states that the most important part of coaching is trust between players and coaches, and he says that Frost lacked that. That’s one area that Mickey can thrive.

Another prospect that is on Nebraska fans’ radar is Urban Meyer. Urban Meyer has not had a coaching job after his stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL. Urban Meyer has always been on the winningest programs with his team in college football but has not had the best rep with the media recently. Urban was caught with an underage girl in a bar in Florida and was also caught doing some questionable things during his time with the Jaguars.

For some Nebraska fans, hearing Urban Meyer makes them want to turn their shoulder. For other Nebraska fans, they want Urban and all the baggage and bad press that comes with him. Omaha, Nebraska native, and lifelong husker fan Charlie Fletcher says this about Urban. “This team and this fanbase deserve to win now, and Urban is the only coach that can put us in the position to do so.”

Sensory Details- Chocolate straw

The chocolate straw looks like a brown small branch you would find in your front yard as a child. Or a cigar you would see an Italian mob member smoke in all of the old movies. The texture on my hands reminds me of a piece of construction paper, but the texture on my tongue starts hard but eventually gets smooth while the chocolate melts in my mouth. while I chew on the straw it sounds like I am chewing on a potato chip, guessing many people around me can hear the crunch in my mouth.

Story 2 rough draft

Victor Wembanyama has goals set high

Victor Wembanyama is honored by all the praise he is getting by NBA players, but knows the talk does not change anything. He still needs to put the work in.

Victor played his first game on American soil this past week, and received numerous words of encouragement from NBA greats. One including from Lebron James, where he called Victor, ” an alien”.

Victor said this about the words from Lebron, “I wasn’t drafted, so I’ve got to stay focused to reach my goals. Because it’s going to be tough to get better every day and stay consistent.”

Victor is the projected number one pick for next year draft, and with all the hype he is enduring, he knows he has to keep his eyes forward looking to his goals.

The target audience is basketball fans, more specifically NBA fans. Also fans that our out of country basketball fans because he is from France.

I do not believe this is news, because all the article talked about was how he reacted to what people were saying about him, which is not anything out the ordinary.

Pastor Andy Nelson

Pastor Andy Nelson is the campus Chaplin here at Morningside University.

Nelson is from Redwing, Minnesota and faith was always a part of his life as a child. He was very involved in his church, were many of the adults encouraged him to become a pastor when he is older.

He went to Luther College, a small liberal arts school in Iowa. Here he was also very involved in campus minister and started realizing he might become a pastor when he was older.

“Junior year I decided that I wanted to be a pastor, then the next year I thought I could never be a pastor, back to wanting to be a pastor the following year.”, Nelson said. The flipping of his decision did not stop there, where he chose to leave the seminary.

Nelson says if he could change one thing with what he knows know, he says that he would have taken a gap year after college, and before the seminary. “I think part of the reason I left the seminary, was because I was kind of burnt out.”, Nelson says.

After Nelson finished the seminary his first line of work was in Rochester, Minnesota, where he was the pastor for a few years. After a job opening in Sioux City, after Morningside university, he became the Morningside campus Chaplin.

Nelson describes his job as, “Tend to the spiritual life of the Morningside community.” He hosts worships, advises students groups, and helps students get connected with worshipping communities. Nelson has an open-door policy for his office, and confidentiality policy, so kids feel they could trust him.

Other than being the Chaplin, Nelson’s hobbies include theater and drama, gardening, and most importantly taking care of his 4 children. He also enjoys reading and says that his favorite author is Deidrick Bonhoeffer; a Lutheran monk that was part of the resistance movement against the Nazis.

Faith is the forefront of Nelsons life. He describes faith as, “It shapes how I view the world.” He says it he shapes all his relationships and views death and life beyond death because of his faith.

Nelson also wants to see a little bit of growth with in the community here at Morningside. Events like recitals and student faith stories, he believes is something where the community can grow itself.
