Media Comparison

The story is about Kanye West getting kicked out of Sketchers headquarters after coming unannounced. The print story is from AP News and the broadcast story is from CBS.

Both stories have mostly the same content, but the broadcast went into West a little deeper. The broadcast talked a little more about West recent controversies. The print story stayed on the topic for the whole story, only talking about him getting escorted by sketchers.

Both stories had quoted, the print had a quote from the executives inside the sketchers facility, and the broadcast story had a quote from a player from West’s students from his school. The broadcast also paraphrased what the company said about West coming into the facility.

The broadcast used many pictures of West when talking about the story. They showed him with Adidas, who West was formally partnered with, and they used him infront of the school he created.

I found it interesting that the headline of the story in the broadcast was about West getting kicked out of the sketchers facility, but deviated and talked about other things. The print only talked about their headline and seemed like an easier read.

Links would have helped me, Justin. By now, both sites will have revised the stories, and they will more than likely be buried.

The AP isn’t going to give a lot of background. It’s different from the New York Times. The AP has to provide stories that every news provider can use. That means they need to keep it short. CBS is going to rely on images and video, and maybe in this case they tried to put the Skechers story in a larger context of Kanye shenanigans.
