A system called C-V2X — cellular vehicle-to-everything technology — will allow vehicles to communicate with each other, with a goal to save lives in the process.
Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything technology -shorthand for C-V2X. This technology allows vehicles to communicate with each other and pedestrians, cyclists, and construction workers via wearable sensors or smartwatches.
- Highway workers: Will be alerted when vehicles are getting too close to them.
- School Bus Drivers: Warned against letting children off if a vehicle fails to stop.
- Cyclists & Drivers: Will be aware of each other before possible collisions.
The C-V2X test vehicles detected stopped school buses, vehicles running a red light, construction workers in the roadway, and cyclists in blind spots or turning in front of a car.
These alerts could be displayed on the vehicle’s instrumental panel, a handheld device, or a smartphone. Emergency braking is also easy for a car manufacturer to incorporate into the C-V2X system.
“Because the human attention span is decreasing, you’ll look for these technologies to save your life,” said Ram Iyer.
I think that the Lede for this article was eye-catching. It made me want to know more and I was interested that it was about car technology.
When reading the article I wished that there was more detail as to what it actually did and what made it stand out from other car technology out there.
The author covered some good points I was just left wanting to know more information about C-V2X. It did not make me understand how it really worked.
