Washington State Football Coach Fired for not getting Vaccine

Washington State Football coach fired for not receiving the Covid-19 vaccine. Nick Rolovich along with four other assistant coaches were fired for not meeting the state’s vaccination mandate. Rolovich was the state’s highest paid employee as he was in the second year of his 15 million dollar contract. Washington State’s president, Kirk Shulz, said “people made a choice, and had months to make that choice” Rolovich was denied a religious exemption from getting the mandated vaccine. This vaccine mandate is among the strictest throughout the entire country. Rolovich will potentially lose more than 9 million dollars due to being fired. The crack down at Washington State is not just with the employees as students who do not get the vaccine will not be allowed back next semester.

The author did a great job of explaining what was happening at Washington State University. The author gave a lot of background which showed how the coach knew it was coming if he did not get vaccinated. The story was very good as it used quotes from players that defended him and also quotes from the president and athletic director of the school. One thing I wanted from the story is a quote from the coach explaining how he feels about the situation.

This is big news as Rolovich was one of the state’s highest paid employees. I think this also shows big changes may come in the future regarding the vaccine. In recent months we have seen many other situations with players or coaches punished or even losing jobs due to not getting the vaccine. I think this story is important as it may be foreshadowing what will happen in the future.
