By Alyssa Nehring–The Morningside Art Department’s Annual Student Art Show begins February 5, but they are still asking students to submit their artwork. The artwork must be submitted to the Art Department by Wednesday, January 27.
“Students have this opportunity to show their creative work, no matter what their majors are, ” said Terri McGaffin, head of the Art Department.
Any Morningside student currently enrolled can submit 1 to 2 pieces of artwork, but the total number of entries may impact whether the artwork will be accepted. The submitted pieces must be from the last 12 months while the artist studied at Morningside. No works from other schools will be accepted.
There are three categories for submission. The categories are: studio art (traditional materials and disciplines), photography (both traditional and digital), and graphic design (logos, web design, animations, etc.).
Awards will be given for each of the three categories. First place in each category will receive $60 award, second place will receive $45 award, and third place will receive $30 award. An additional $25 award will be given to one of the first place winners for Best in Show.
Pauline Sensenig and Robert Gillespie, two local artists, serve as this year’s judges.
Questions can be sent to Terri McGaffin, in person or through campus e-mail.
