By Jordan Heim—On May 11 a group of students, faculty, and alumni will be leaving Morningside College to begin a ten day May term trip across northern Spain. This trip is a performance tour of Spain by the Morningside College Choir. The trip will include various stops at famous sites in the country and several concerts.
Stops will include the cities of Barcelona, Logrono, Bilbao, Burgos, Toledo, and Madrid. Each stop will allow the travelers an immersive look at the country and famous sites. Some of these sites will include the Palau de Musica Catalana, Sagrada Familia, Cathedral Barcelona, Guggenheim Modern Art Museum, Monasterio de los Reyes, Sinagoga de Santa Maria la Blanca, and the Prado Museum.
Students are looking forward to this trip like Kathryn Jones. She has had the opportunity to travel to Spain but is looking forward to this trip saying, “I think it will be a lot different since we will be immersed in the music and art culture more than the historical culture like my previous visit.”
For many students this is their first time traveling outside of the country. With the first there come some fears, “I was nervous about it at first because there are so many things to worry about like pickpockets or something going wrong with the bank leaving me with no money. I’ve now had time to prepare for or avoid those things and I’m not as nervous anymore!” said Tabitha Snyder.
For Shaley McDermott she shares some of the fears Snyder does in addition to some others, “I am a little nervous that I wont be able to understand the people or that I won’t like the food.”
Students going on the trip are also looking forward to being able to see the sites, Jace Neabaum says, “I’m really looking forward to seeing the art at the Guggenheim museum!”
Paige Potter is excited and says, “Being able to explore a different culture and being able to sing in beautiful buildings!”
The college choir will be led under the direction of Tim Watson, director of choral activities at Morningside College.
