By Derek Krayenhagen—Some students don’t travel to Cancun or Cocoa Beach for Spring Break but instead go home and enjoy family time. Needless to day, they will probably have some downtime. Here are ten movies that will help fill up some of that time.
10. Gladiator (2000) – A movie easily worth watching. Gladiator offers more than just an action movie for men but also a great storyline for all. You will also get to learn one of the more famous movie lines of all time, “are you not entertained!”
9. The Departed (2006) – A star studded cast including Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, and Leonardo DiCaprio is enough to get you to watch. The intricate storyline keeps you involved and entertained throughout and the ending will have you saying, “What just happened?”
8. No list would be complete without a great Disney/Pixar movie to watch. This is a viewer’s choice pick. I would suggest one of the four though: The Lion King, Finding Nemo, Toy Story, or Up. All are great to watch and enjoy. No bad choices here.
7. Gone Girl (2014) – Gone Girl will leave you speechless, literally. If you haven’t seen it then this will be higher on the list. A crazy thriller that leaves you guessing throughout, Gone Girl has it all, including Ben Affleck.
6. The Big Lebowski (1998) – After all the drama and thriller movies I’ve added, it’s time for a laugh. The Big Lebowski offers you a laugh with an interesting plot as well. Never will you take anything so seriously after watching the “Dude” and the Big Lebowski. “Like chill out, man.”
5. Ferris Buehlers Day Off (1986) – One of my personal favorite, Ferris and his friends ditch school and have a day to remember. A young Matthew Broderick shows off his acting chops and we all get to relive the day off from school we always wanted.
4. The Shawshank Redemption (1994) – “The Shank” is listed as IMBD’s number one rated movie of all time, of course that alone makes me put it on the list. An interesting plot and great set of characters allows “The Shank” to take home the number one spot. If you’ve seen it, you will understand why it’s on the list, if you haven’t, you’ll thank me for introducing it to you.
3. Pick a Tarantino film here. I may be biased but Quentin Tarantino never seems to disappoint. His movies are definitely not for everyone but they are definitely worth a watch. Recommendations would include: Pulp Fiction, Django Unchained, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, or Inglorious Bastards. I promise you this; you have never seen a movie quite like Tarantino’s
2. The Dark Knight (2008) – By now most of us have seen this blockbuster, so most know just how great “the Dark Knight” truly is. The movie that put Batman back on the map is always worth watching. The story displays the most realistic depiction of Gotham’s famed hero, plus Heath Ledger, as the Joker is pure gold. Ledger steals the movie and displays acting chops we all wish we could still see to this day.
1. Your “guilty pleasure” movie. Movies that whenever it’s on TV you watch it. No list would be complete without one of these. For me this movie has to be “Hitch.” Will Smith as a love “guru” and Kevin James as a hopeless romantic gets me every time.
