By Kayla Perkins—Marvel comics and mystery fans look no more, because Agent Carter is the gal for you. Marvel’s Agent Carter is a spin-off series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and is inspired by both Captain America films. Set in the 1940s after the end of World War II, the show stars Peggy Carter as she works in the male-dominated Strategic Scientific Reserve (S.S.R), while also completing missions for Howard Stark, with help from butler Edwin Jarvis. In her free time, Carter also struggles with settling down as a single woman in the 1940s.
Peggy Carter struggles with finding her place in the world. Working in the S.S.R is not easy for Carter because she is one of the only female agents. Not many of the guys give her a chance, other than Agent Sousa, who is constantly trying to defend her. However, the main focus of Carter’s interactions with these men is for her to prove that she can handle things herself.
In the meantime, Carter also goes undercover for Howard Stark, teaming up with his butler Edwin Jarvis. Jarvis serves as comedic relief, while also supporting and defending Carter. Many times it is Jarvis who ends up being the one needing to be saved. Throughout these missions Carter helps the wanted Stark evade the FBI so he can clear his name.
When Carter manages to have some free time, she goes to the local diner to spend some quality time with her best friend Angie Martinelli.
I watched the entire first season of Agent Carter, and I have to say it is one of the best shows I have watched in a long time. Packed full of action and suspense, drama and turmoil, this is a show anyone can enjoy. The show also has a strong feminist stance that most others are only just starting to depict. Agent Carter blows them all out of the water with Peggy kicking butt and saving the day, all without breaking a sweat. This is definitely a show I would recommend. I give this show a 9.5/10, simply because it is a short season. Each episode is full of suspense, and the action and mystery will leave you wanting more. This show is available free on Hulu.
