Students Experience Lunar Eclipse

lunareclipseBy Natlie Waller– College students are always staying up late doing homework, studying, or other activities. Hopefully they stayed up last night to witness the great show in the sky. Tuesday morning between 2:00 and 4:00 AM the universe experienced a lunar eclipse. This also was known as the “Blood Moon.”

A lunar eclipse is something that attracts many people. In this phenomenon the moon turns a reddish color as it passes in the Earth’s shadow. Its red color comes from the sunlight and sunsets coming from the Earth’s atmosphere. For this to happen the moon must be a full moon.

People all around the world stayed up into late hours to watch this happen. Morgan Hively set her alarm to make sure she did not miss this event. “It is so interesting to see how the universe works. It’s a huge place out there and witnessing this was something I did not want to miss,” She said.

Joe Tarpey took part in this event as well. “This world is full of technology and other unnatural things. It is nice to see the natural world and something that no human can affect,” He stated.

Steph Short, a 32-year-old mother of three, made sure she woke up for the lunar eclipse. As a middle-aged woman she said, “This is something I did not want to miss. It doesn’t happen often so I wanted to make sure I could see the universe at this unique time.”

Scientists do say that this year and the next will have more lunar eclipses. Within the next 24 months there will be three more eclipses for the world to see. Your next chance to see this show in the sky will be October 8th 2014.
