By Katie Copple–Just across the river in the city of South Sioux City sits a nice authentic Mexican restaurant called Mi Familia.
Authentic Mexican and Spanish cuisine is a staple in the Siouxland area. Mi Familia has been a part of Siouxland for many years. With a menu filled with authentic Mexican favorites like tacos, burritos, tostadas and quesadillas, Mi Familia has all of that and more.
Sitting down at a table, you are immediately greeted by a welcoming staff and a warm basket of chips and fresh salsa.
One of my favorite dishes is the quesadilla. Yes, simple but delicious! Served with rice and beans, you can get your quesadilla with chicken, shredded beef or just cheese. Served on a homemade tortilla, the quesadilla is packed full of cheese and meat and is mouthwatering.
Siouxland resident Morgan Knuppel has been visiting Mi Familia for two years and makes sure to stop in for some food after her volleyball games on Wednesday nights.
“I am a picky eater,” she exclaimed. “I like their quesadillas and queso dip.”
Knuppel also loves the traditional Mexican drink called a Cantarito, which is tequila cocktail drink served in a clay jar. Having tried one myself, I can say that they are definitely something you should try when you visit Mi Familia!
Besides Cantarito’s, Mi Familia also serves a variety of Mexican beers and margaritas at reasonable prices.
Along with their authentic cuisine and drinks, the talented chefs at Mi Familia also serve traditional American food like chicken nuggets and fries.
So what is it that keeps Knuppel coming back? “They have very friendly staff and good service!” She said.
The atmosphere and people at Mi Familia makes it a great place for families, friends and people of all ages to come and enjoy great food and socialize. With an outdoor patio for warm summer days, this restaurant is the perfect place for any time of the year.
Check out Mi Familia’s in South Sioux City on Dakota Avenue, right next to McDonald’s. With friendly staff and delicious food, this place will have you coming back for more in no time.
