By Amber Burg–Student artwork basks in the yellow glow of the gallery lights in Eppley Art Gallery, but only three pieces bask in the glory.
The results were announced February 12 at the gallery reception. Judges selected one top piece in each of the categories and one overall best of show. The three categories were photography, graphic design, and studio work.
“Night Owl” received an abundant amount of attention. Jessica Tietz was awarded first place in studio art and bestowed the honor of best of show. At first glance, it looks like a black and white photograph but it’s actually done on scratchboard. The black paper has a remarkable close up of an owl scratched into it. The shading and detail in this piece is remarkable. Viewing this is an opportunity not to miss.
In the graphic design section, Felicia Ely’s design out-shone the others. The product packaging design was for chocolate covered bugs. It sounds gross but looks great. The product was well designed and has been drawing in attention.
Bruce Weaver took the spotlight in photography with his first place images demonstrating the beauty of light and shadows. His entry is two black and white digital photographs of the lines created by light spread across the floor. His piece is one to look for at the exhibit.
From now until February 28 the gallery will have the student art show on display. Make your way on down to Eppley to view the top three pieces for yourself.
