By Sarah Davy ~ On the afternoon of April 23rd, Morningside College held their third annual “Trashion Show” at the Buhler Outdoor Performance Center. The event was sponsored by the Morningside College Committee on Environmental Sustainability and T.O.E.S. (Totally On Earth’s Side). This event was held in celebration of Earth Month.
Lydia Bielien and Charles Bass spoke on environmental issues; one being about the horrendous amount of wasted plastic around the world and its affects on our earth, and the other being about how the people of this generation say they are “environmentalists” when its really just all talk and no action.
This years’ Trashion Show had the most participants ever. Seven people entered the contest in hopes of winning the grand prize of $100. There was everything from a plastic bag dress to political sign suits to an Iron Man costume. The outfits were made out of all recycled goods and trash as a way to raise awareness of waste and recycling.
The grand place prize went to Judy Ford who wore a dress made out of VHS tape and plastic piping. She rocked the dress, along with a stylish hat and purse to pull the whole outfit together. The runners up were the plastic bag dress, and the Iron Man costume.
