By Shelby Powell ~ With the release of his album Love is a Four Letter Word, Jason Mraz has once again solidified his place as the voice of summer. Most know him as the crooner behind the smash hit “I’m Yours”, but the 34 year old Mraz has proven himself much more than a one hit wonder.
The most outstanding offering on this album is, without a doubt, “I Won’t Give Up.” After breaking up with long-time girlfriend/fiancé and fellow musician Tristan Prettyman, it’s obvious to see that Mraz has poured himself into his music. “I Won’t Give Up” is a touching apology to a wronged lover. In his characteristically smooth warble, Mraz assures his former paramour that he’ll always love her even if she has to explore the world first.
The song that is most destined to become another summer anthem is “The Freedom Song.” Light and breezy, it sounds similar enough his prior hits to keep even a casual fan interested.
Unlike his previous albums, there aren’t really any subpar songs on Love is a Four Letter Word. Jason Mraz has grown up, seen real pain, and his music reflects that.
