A little R&R

By Sean Roberts ~
With spring break wrapping up March 12,  lots of Morningside students were talking about what they did over break.  While most people think of the traditional spring break as going to Mexico or Florida or some other tropical local, some students decided to take a less traditional approach to their nine day break from classes.

Coire Walker, a sophomore counseling psychology major, stayed on campus for break from classes.  “It was nice being here with no one else around. I could relax in my room and not have tons of loud people running around the dorms all hours of the days.”

Sophomore Courtney Walls took a more active approach to staying in Sioux City. “I hold down a part time job in addition to going to class.  Since I had no class that week, it allowed me to work more hours and make more money.”

But the decision to stay on campus wasn’t totally without its drawbacks.  “The school shut down the cafeteria the last day of classes.  This means I had to buy my own groceries, which was a bummer.”  Walls commented.

Not all students decided to stay here in Sioux City.  Matthew Trisler, a senior biology and chemistry major, decided to adventure out of Iowa.  “I decided to go to Chicago for a few days. I was able to get a bus out of Omaha for close to $25 round trip.  This worked great because I just left my car at a friend’s house and was able to have them pick me up and drop me off at the bus stop without having to pay for parking.”

Trisler went on to talk about how it was nice to get out of Sioux City and explore a large city atmosphere that is nonexistent around these regions. Both Walker and Trisler also talked about how they weren’t really into the idea of going to some place warm.

“Yeah it would be pretty wild to go down there and see all the crazy parties and stuff that MTV puts on,” Walker stated,  “but there’s really nothing better than just being able to relax and enjoy lots of free time on your own schedule.”
