Morningside Spring Concert With Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band

By Thomas Godtland — Friday, April 25, Morningside’s Wind Ensemble and M-Avenue Jazz band will present their Spring Concert in Eppley Auditorium. 

M-Avenue, under the direction of Dr. Erik Mahon, will perform Gold & Lavender by Eric Oatts, C Jam Blues ala. Mambo by Duke Ellington and arranged by Michael Philip Mossman, Mixolydian Soul Frog by Frank Mantooth, Let’s Face the Music and Dance by Irving Berlin and arranged by Mike Tomaro, Just Chattin’ by Lars Halle, and Deliberation by John Wasson.

Morningside’s Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Christopher Brandt, will perform The Invincible Eagle by John Philip Sousa, The Hounds of Spring by Alfred Reed, Before the Dawn by David Biedenbender, and Kingfishers Catch Fire by John Mackey. 

Following this performance, both ensembles will embark on a Band Tour during May Term to Chicago. This instrumental tour in the Chicago area will showcase a diverse range of music and performances in various settings. Experiential and active learning through music will be facilitated by rehearsals on campus prior to travel, followed by clinics, workshops, and masterclasses throughout the journey. 

The tour includes stops at Bryan High School, Edwardsville High School, Central DeWitt High School, and Logan Magnolia High School. Additional attractions for students will feature Broadway shows, the Symphony Orchestra, Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum, and an MLB game.
