Morningside was the host with the most, picking up tough wins in the first two rounds of the NAIA Men’s Basketball Tournament and earning a spot in the field of 16.

The Mustangs bested Lourdes College 87-76 Friday behind Joey Skoff’s 38 points. Senior Ely Doble knocked down 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds. As a team Morningside shot better than 50 percent from the field.

The win set up a Saturday afternoon defensive shootout with Georgetown College. Doble’s 23 points led the Stangs to a down-to-the-wire 61-59 win.

Now 23-9, the 3-seed Mustangs have a date with University of the Cumberlands Friday, March 22. Game Time in Kansas City Municipal Auditorium is 7 pm. The Patriots, 28-4, were ranked 7th nationally in the final NAIA coaches poll.
