by Alexis Spier–The women’s basketball team hosted Mount Marty Nov. 18 in their second regular season conference game. The Mustangs dominated offensively with four players scoring in double digits defeating the Lancers 103-59.
Senior guard Alexis Spier led the team in scoring and rebounding with 16 points and 5 rebounds. She was 6-10 from the field and made 4 of 7 three point attempts. Seniors Chaise Pfanstiel, Chloe Lofstrom, and Freshman Jaeden Webb all had eleven points on the game, with Pfanstiel earning a career high of 6 assists in a single game.
“It was nice to see everyone shooting well and not just one or two players,” said assistant coach Bryan Alfredson. “The team shot with confidence and ended the game with 16 total three pointers.”
The Mustangs had their best game beyond the arc shooting a team average of 50%. The team made five three pointers in the first quarter, stretching the lead to 26-10. The team had 9 threes at half time and were leading 46-30. All players on the bench got in the game in the fourth quarter and were tremendous.
“It was a great team win,” said head coach Jamie Sale. “30 of our 39 made baskets were assisted, and we improved in total turnovers. I’m always happy when I can play the entire bench.”
Before announcing the starting lineup, head coach Jamie Sale presented senior center Chloe Lofstrom with a basketball for reaching a career 1,000 points. Lofstrom has been the starting center for the Mustangs for the entirety of her career.
The Morningside women (4-2) will host #2 Dordt (7-0) Tuesday, Nov. 21st at 6 p.m. with the Morningside men following the match.
