Men’s Basketball Defeats Mount Marty; Five Players in Double Digits (w/ photos)

by Alexis Spier–The Mustangs hosted Mount Marty Nov. 18 at 3:45 in their second regular season conference game. The Mustangs put on quite a show with five players scoring in double digits and throwing down four dunks in the game. They crushed Mount Marty 100-71.

Junior starting small forward Brendan Buckley led the Mustangs in scoring with a career high of 19 points. He was 7-12 from the field with four three pointers on the game. He almost earned a double double having 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Buckley has been phenomenal on the boards this season averaging 8 rebounds a game.

Junior power forward Dylan Johnson came off the bench and was the second leading scorer with a career high of 18 points. He was 7-9 from the field and was exceptional beyond the arc, making four of five three point attempts. He also had five rebounds, a steal, and two blocks.

“A lot of people stepped up, and we finished with a great team win,” said starting center Ely Doble. “A win like that builds a lot of confidence going into a tough match against Dordt.”

Seniors Joey Skoff, Aidan Vanderloo, and Doble all added double digit scores to the Mustang’s win. Skoff was 7-13 with 15 points, Vanderloo was 5-10 with 12 points, and Doble was 7-11 with 14 points.

Doble was jamming it all game with a three dunks, and Johnson also added a dunk to his fantastic performance. Doble, Vanderloo, and Skoff are all within 25 points of reaching 1,000 career points with Skoff only needing 16 more to reach the milestone.

#19 Morningside will host #23 Dordt Tuesday, Nov. 21st at 7:45 p.m. following the women’s game at 6 p.m.
