Game Day From a Morningside Student’s POV

By Jadyn Steffen--The Morningside Mustangs played their rivals, the Northwestern Raiders, in Sioux City at the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center January 26.

Fans packed the gym in fear of missing out on the nail-biter of a game, but the women ended up on top with a final score of 81-63. The men won with a score of 83-80.

Freshman Ana Conover says, “I always love going to game days, especially basketball, because our team always comes to play. We have a lot of really talented athletes at our school and this game was such a good one to watch. The men’s game was so intense and both teams fought hard making the score so close, but honestly I’m just glad we beat the Raiders!”

Junior Ridge Hoffman says, ”The atmosphere when you first walked into that gym was electrifying. All the parents, fans, and benches are loud and proud to be Mustang fans. Especially during big GPAC games like this one, where it comes down to the wire and everyone is on their feet. It literally gives you chills!”

A big part of Morningside is our athletics. They bring everyone together in some way or another, whether it be as a teammate or just being a supporter and fan. Being able to be a part of the game day atmosphere is an experience like no other, especially when playing such a great competitor like Northwestern College.
