Hawkeye with a hint of Black Widow nostalgia

By Rena Ketelsen– “Partners, Am I Right?” is the fourth episode of the Marvel series Hawkeye (2021) and it is the second one directed by Bert & Bertie. Released on Wednesday, Dec. 8, the episode is exclusively available on Disney Plus, just like previous episodes.

This episode starts off with a slightly awkward, interrogation-like interaction between the two main characters aside Kate Bishop’s mother and Jack, her fiancé.

Bishop and Clint Barton meet up back at their apartment later again, where they have their own little Christmas party. This gesture from Bishop is highly appreciated by Barton, who is missing his family.

The next morning, Bishop sets out to retrieve some trick arrows and meets a group of LARPers in the process. At the same time, Barton has a meeting with a member from the Russian gang he and Bishop have fought previously.

The last part of the episode follows Barton and Bishop as they retrieve a mysterious object from an apartment. They get attacked by a mysterious fighter and leader of the Russian gang, Maya Lopez.

During the fight, Barton realizes how dangerous this whole situation has gotten. That is why he ends up sending Bishop away wanting to protect her.

Overall, this episode feels a lot like an homage to Barton’s and Natasha Romanoff’s history and friendship. It gave the audience an opportunity to hear his side of the story. At the same time, it also makes the fact that Barton still hasn’t gotten over Romanoff’s death very clear.

Considering the frequent reoccurrences of Black Widow throughout this episode, the surprising introduction of another character into the show fits perfectly.

In addition to that, the episode also continues exploring the dynamics of Hawkeye and Bishop, along with their relationship. They finally seem to be getting used to each other.

Despite several rather nostalgic and emotional scenes, this episode still manages to include some comedy, mostly in form of funny comments.

While this is generally a good episode, it is particularly fulfilling and exciting for anyone who misses Black Widow. It will be interesting to see how the dynamics between all of the characters develop in the next episode, which will be released on Wednesday, Dec. 15.
