Students choose to attend Morningside for a multitude of reasons. Some come for the small size of campus, the wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses offered, or even the friendly atmosphere.
There’s even perks to living on campus because it is like a small community. Living in the dorms on campus makes it easier to get to classes, meet new people and get more engaged with activities.
Devyn Reilly, a junior said, “I feel at home when I’m at Morningside. It’s like a home away from home.” Reilly is from Colorado, which is about an 11-hour drive from Morningside. Another junior, Carson Wadle, who is from Dexter, Iowa, agrees that Morningside is like a home away from home. They feel comfortable even being so far from home.
A few students decided to attend Morningside because of department or activity atmospheres. Payton Sauerbrei said that the English department is her favorite part of Morningside. Josh Miller said, “The football environment, specifically the football team and the coaches.”
Two specific aspects of Morningside that bring a lot of students joy would be two Sodexo workers. Rebecca, who helps up at the cafeteria, is the first person to greet students during most meals of the day. She has taken the time to learn most students names as they come in and swipe their cards for meals. She takes care in getting to know her students and making them feel welcomed, even the students who show up for college visits.
The other person is Mary, who works over at the Spoonholder Café in the library. She greets everybody with a friendly “Hello!” and always asks how they are doing. Aubrey Cervantes, an avid visitor to the Spoonholder for coffee, said, “Best part of Morningside… Mary.”
What makes students happy to be at Morningside can range from the small things to the big things or even just the people. College students can have rough days because college is stressful, but there is always something that can brighten their day.
