by Jonathan Covert--The Mustangs and Waldorf Warriors women’s soccer teams were both looking for their first win of the season when they met Aug. 31 in Olsen Stadium. Waldorf went home with the 2-1 victory.
Waldorf senior midfielder Bonnie Zuniga (Santa Maria, California) opened the scoring. Morningside hit the equalizer at 41:39 of the first half. Freshman forward Cassandra Garcia (Omaha, Neb) scored with an assist from Merel Kooij (Rockanje Zuid, Netherlands).
Just 67 seconds later, the Warriors’ Heather Kolona scored her second goal of the season, concluding the scoring for the game.
Waldorf improved to 1-3 with Morningside falling to 0-4. The Mustangs host Ottawa University Sept. 5.
