1.Bob Harwood, a local firefighter made a heroic climb on 102 11th Ave, to save a cat from an oak tree. The cat climbed its way 50 feet from the ground in an oak tree and needed a rescue. Harwood made the climb and rescued the cat but on his way down suffered a broken leg after falling 15 feet due to a dead limb breaking off the tree.
Bob is doing “just fine” at St. Lukes Hospital, while the cat had a softer landing on top of Bob. The cat can now return to its owners, Suzanne and Samantha Decker who are twin daughters of Charlie and Kim Decker.
2. False alarms, Protests, food fights, suspensions, and drugs, are some of the problems East High school is facing as summer vacation nears. Ten upperclassman have been suspended for a week after protesting the schools decision to suspend five other students that were caught smoking marijuana in a school parking lot. During these protests there was three false alarms going off last Wednesday, the school thinks they have found the culprits according to the Principle. If these problems were not enough, a food fight closed the cafeteria on Thursday.
The answer to these problems seems to be due to some “unrest.” Principle Vibelius said “Not so much unrest because of suspensions, but because of summer vacation being so near.” She doesn’t think these incidents will come about in the near future.
3.Gas floods sewer lines after a terrible accident causing a Texaco gas truck to overturn. The gas has flooded sewer lines within two blocks of 48th and Correctionville road. This incident was very serious until the gas was flushed out two hours after.
Four families were evacuated during this accident. Cars were rerouted to side roads because the gas got onto the road and into the ditches. The situation was in goods hands with the local firemen on the scene. They had just practiced the procedures for this type of accident before hand according to fire Chief Charles Hochandel.
