This story is about Joe Nathan and the Texas Ranger baseball team. It about how Joe Nathan lost a bet with one of his teammates and was forced to wear the jersey of his least favorite NFL team to practice and sign autographs in it.

I think this qualifies as news because the Rangers are a popular team in the MLB and it brings a comical part to the news and sports. I know i saw this on ESPN so if they are covering it then it must be important enough for sports news.

Also the MLB season is winding down and it at the part where not many people are watching it anymore so this brings people attention back to the season.

I don’t think I would use ESPN as the barometer for what is [sports] news. They have a lot of time to fill, and not enough real sports to fill it. I think it’s enough to say we live in a sports/celebrity culture where anything a famous athlete does will be considered news by someone.
