Lieutenant Colonel Chris Stokes in Afghanistan about to go on his night patrol.

A 41 year old  father of 5 girls from the ages 1 to 17. Three different military tours, two in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. Chris Stokes is a fighter pilot for the United States Air Force. But when he’s not on active duty with the military he flies for United Airlines and owns a business in the Midwest. He has trained his entire life to do what he does overseas so all his friends and family support him and they don’t look for sympathy. Chris does what he loves and ironically doesn’t mind going overseas to fight. According to Chris, “It’s kinda fun going over there. It’s the biggest challenge in life, but I don’t know, it’s hard to explain.”

1.  I do believe that after taking this class my leads and over all writing news articles and stories has gotten better.

2. I know my organization isn’t good at all, when I write my head goes all over the place so I just throw it down and reorganization it and it doesn’t finish completely organized and in order. To me an article needs to be as long as it needs to be with a good lead and getting all the points across that need to be made. Pictures and video to the article do really help. Actually seeing the article with pictures or video can really bring in the community and bring emotion to the article when you can actually see what’s going on, instead of just reading it and making your own picture in your head.

Article

This article was very short and to the point. The headline caught my attention more then the lead. There were also no pictures or video to go with it. Although the earthquake was so small I don’t really know what they could have taken pictures of if there wasn’t any damage. But they maybe could have put a picture of the earthquake graph or something. I don’t know I read it in like 1 minute. The article also had zero quotes. They could have gone out and asked people if they felt it, especially student on the near by college campus.

Jeicy is a transfer junior from Peru South America. She is only 19 years old and came to America to live the dream her father didn’t get to live, college in the states. She has everyday struggles like any other college student but add on family matters and her world is a lot more complicated then yours and mine. This whole experience has made her family much closer.

Private college rates are higher then public college rates because of the size and the class. This is all proven to be true in the data that Liz Koop CEO of EducationQuest Foundation in Lincoln Nebraska (which is a non-profit organization). Liz Koop specializes in college planning and helps high school students in Nebraska get into college, even if their family can’t financially afford it.

student athlete

Student athletes struggle everyday with school and their sports just to keep their scholarship and to be able to stay in school. They work 30 to 40 hours a week just on school and sports, which adds up to a regular full time job.

migration story

It has been confirmed that from May 15^th through October of next year, no one will be allowed to work in the Library Building. Everything will have to be moved out of the building and relocated for the time being. They don’t know where they will move everything but are working on figuring that out. I spoke with Shannon Smith about her classes being moved into Roadman.

“My classes got moved three weeks ago, I like it in Roadman better cause its closer and the chairs are a lot comfier.”

Of the people I talked to no one didn’t like the move. Smith says “it’s more convenient for everyone, so I don’t know why they wouldn’t like it. ”

Michaela hasn’t had her first class in the ICN room yet but she is “looking forward to the shorter walk.”

The classes are going to stay this way for a long time so people better get use to the change. All this moving around will be worth it in the end when Morningside finishes updating the campus and is put to use in the great way it is being made to be.

Gay marriage got legalized in Illinois Tuesday! They are now the 15th state to have legalized same sex marriage. The article I found on it was way to long! I read half of it and quit. The words and “language” they used was way to confusing for me and boring. There was a video before the article that I watched so I still got the information I needed out of the article. They needed to “dumb down” the article because it was a politics topic, and some people just don’t understand politics very well.

New Article

This was an amazing story to read..it did have a video at the end but it was basically word for word to the article. It was perfect length for someone with a short attention span. It was a medical story for that kind of scared me at first. I went in thinking I wasnt going to be able to understand it. But even though it was all about her birth defect they talked about it in a way that a normal average American who knows nothing about medical stuff could understand the article. It had a strong lead I thought and a great family picture at the top. I liked the lay out of the article. How the video was at the end..it made you read the article and not be lazy and just watch the video right away. It made you read the effort the reporter took into writing the article.

Newly weds break out into a fight that leads to the bride being shot by the groom. Richard Brunson age 50 and new wife Laurette Kenny Brunson age 38 got into a fight at their wedding reception. Laurette threw her plate of macaroni salad at Richard and Richard in return shoots her in the abdomen with his .22-calibre handgun. The couple had only been living together for 4 or 5 months prior to getting married.

“I heard the sound of the shot, or I think I did. It was kinda a pop pop pop and the son comes out yellin she’s been shot and cant breathe.” Said Walter Corse, one of their neighbors.

Laurette is at St. Luke’s hospital and she’s in satisfactory condition. Also the whereabouts of the groom are still unknown. Laurette had nothing to say to the press after the incident occurred.

One of their neighbors Michael Martin said “I’ve never seen him violent, never heard them yelling, it blows me away”

New Article

This was a very well done article in my opinion. It had everything quotes, video, pictures, lots of information. It was a longer article but all the paragraphs were short”er”. The topic being such a serious topic it needed to be long to get all the information out. So I didn’t have a problem with it being so long. Sometimes articles get to be to long and I start to read them as blah blah blah but this one had my attention the whole time. The lead was good…a little typical for a school shooting. The title got my attention for then anything.
