Quick Reflection

During the process of Paper #1, I can say I put the most effort into the writing and the assignments. I spent more time on coursework because I had little time to read. Valuable information gained from the readings I have read; helped me improve my writing.

The heavy part of writing this paper was understanding and using what I gained from lectures and the readings. I was not in class for some time due to personal issues affecting my performance in class. I am still playing catch-up because I wanted to go back and read what I had missed.

My biggest problem when writing this paper was making the time while I was busy taking care of myself and my mom for a little while. I struggled with internet access at home since I was away from school. I was not able to utilize the school’s internet. Even under those circumstances, I did gain valid information. I will continue to learn and use what I know in future assignments.

Taryn’s awful work experience…

Four months ago, Taryn Davidson worked for a small Sports Media company. Her job as a Social Media Specialist included editing photos and videos, writing articles, interviewing coaches, and additional business aspects. She was promised $14/Hr with weekly cash pay, allowing her to fulfill commission work if pleased. “He was steady at the beginning,” stated Taryn.

When school started, Taryn’s boss owed her $1,400 for three weeks of hard work. Taryn said, “I asked to be paid and got yelled at; he said he is not obligated to pay me.” Besides not getting paid for weeks of work, her boss constantly unfulfilled his promises. Although they did not directly affect Taryn, it was bothersome that he could not keep his word.

Taryn continues to fight for the right to her money. While figuring out the best way to do so, Taryn acquired an interview for the Digital Marketing Coordinator position with the company Antidote 71 here in Sioux City, IA.

Better luck to Taryn on her possible new job!

Apple’s new $800 smartwatch as the new iPhone 14 peaks its release date.

Apple’s year-to-year technological advances have shifted the company’s focus to the smartwatch and ear technology gadgets allowing more runway for innovation. Apple will release a new wearable computer, Apple watch Ultra and a new cleaned-up version of the Air pod’s pro in mid-September of this year.

Tim Cook, Apple’s chief executive, took that stage at the Steve Jobs theatre to introduce an infomercial showcasing the new products. Employees and Journalists celebrated the return to normalcy since the first-time Apple held an event at the theatre in 2019, New York Times wrote.

“The more products you have from Apple the more impossible it becomes to leave Apple for another player.” – Francisco Jeronimo Vice president of device research at IDC (Institutional Deposits Corporation).

The Apple Newsroom stated that the Ultra smartwatch is said to target triathletes, distance runners, scuba divers, and backcountry enthusiasts. Sold at $800 its unique features include increased durability, an action button, bigger speakers, and a larger battery lasting 36 hrs.

The Ultra smartwatch puts Apple on the list of the smartwatch market that is currently dominated by Garmin. According to the IDC (Institutional Deposits Corporation), it does about 2.6 billion in sales to endurance sports competitors. According to Mr. Jeronimo apple already claims about 51% of the smartwatch market, more than double what Samsung makes.

Garmin spokeswomen Krista Klaus told CNN, “We will continue to push the limits of GPS-enabled technology and remain committed to creating innovative products designed for active lifestyle customers around the world.”

According to the Apple Newsroom, Apple included a new addition to the traditional smartwatch, the series 8. This watch contains new sensors that track body temperatures and a feature called “crash detection” which can detect if the wearer is in an accident. The watch notifies emergency services and family also giving the wearer 10 seconds to reject/cancel the call if falsely detected.

The Apple iPhone 14 Pro has an A16 processor including an improved camera with larger sensors, and an “Always On” display that can be used as a clock without unlocking the phone.

Apple also released more modest updates to the high-priced versions of the iPhone 14 with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays. These models have the ability of a satellite phone, letting users connect with emergency services in rural and remote environments.

Scavenger Hunt

This morning I was tasked with a scavenger hunt by my professor Ross. Our instructions were clear. I had to interview two strangers and either ask them something or obtain an object from them. Each student received a paper with their objects. Both of my objects were to ask the strangers questions.

#1: A Favorite Morningside Memory

#2: A Knock Knock Joke

When I opened the Morningside Campus Security office I found Agnes Garder sitting in the office chair. She was perplexed and delighted to see me as I walked into the office. I proceeded to ask Agnes what her favorite Morningside memory was. Her answer was being a part of a Morningside pole. The pole was statewide and contained politics and officials-related topics. Agnes was able to get the overall opinion of the Iowa population. She said, “The pole was fun to be a part of and be able to do something like that. ”

Katie Koithan was my second stranger. Turns out she was already asked a Knock Knock joke. She said, “I can’t do the same one then, Hold on!” As soon as she found a new one she approached me with a wide smile and her phone in her hand ready to share the joke. Her joke was…

Knock Knock

Who is there?

Luke

Luke who?

Luke through the peephole and find out!

We laughed and I thanked her for participating.

15 Dead horses as suspicious fire in Norfolk Downs Race track starts at Four o’clock this morning.

A day before the opening of the racing season, fire in a one-story barn where 25 horses were stabled caught fire.

Fire chief, Jim Connery said, “The fire exploded near the center of the barn. Flames were shooting out of the building when we got here. The fire is definitely suspicious. ”

An arson squad was called to the site as arson was the suspected cause of the burning wooden structure.

Dan Bucci, the track assistant manager stated: “It could have been of an incendiary nature because it started in the middle of the barn, not the end. The only heaters and electrical outlets were in the track rooms at the ends of the barns.”

Out of the twenty-five, ten horses managed to escape, two of them with their backs on fire.

The remains of the fire include several rows of wooden supports after the fire burned slowly until noon.

Albert Ramos watched the arson workers clean the area. “I love horses more than I do people. I feel like I want to cry,” he said.

It also contains a slim black border around the screen and a small cutout that includes the front camera and displays alerts/notifications.

Tim Cook, Apple’s chief executive, took that stage at the Steve Jobs theatre to introduce an infomercial showcasing the new products. Employees and Journalists celebrated the return to normalcy since the first time apple held an event at the theatre in 2019.

According to consumer intelligence research partners, a third of iPhone buyers make less than $50,000 a year. Apple has offered 7 models of the iPhone, ranging from $429 to higher than $1,500.

To decrease some of its dependency on China, Apple plans to begin assembling its flagship phones in India. Apple’s urgency to diversify its supply chain has escalated due to the pandemic-induced disruptions in China and geopolitical tensions over Taiwan’s status.

The Ugly Truth of Fast-Fashion Shop Shein - Nspirement
Article “The People’sRepublic of Shein” https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/01/style/shein-clothing.html

In the New York Times, an article published today called “The People’s Republic of Shien” spoke about how many people still support Shein. After all the backlash Shien has been facing for “violating labor laws” (this appears to me the highest claim for their backlash). Shien still manages to keep some of its customers.

Shopping lovers love Shein for its affordability, variety, and resemblance to fashionable trends. Ann Taylor (fashion influencer) addressed her view on this issue and stated that she can’t stand against Shein if there is nothing to back up the claims.

Shein gets a lot of publicity because of the famous ‘hauls’ people watch all over youtube and Tik Tok. Shein has grown massively (passing Amazon as the most downloaded shopping app). It has also become the leader of the “Gen Z- favored brands.” Shein has worked on increasing the quality of their clothing and plans to initiate a social media campaign giving an ‘inside look’ at labor, sustainability, and product safety to prove that the claims are false.
