Golfers Win Home Opener

(4.18.2017) By Rachel Potter–Morningside College’s women’s golf team is in full swing of their spring season. The team is coming off its second straight tournament victory, making six tournament titles for the 2016-2017 season.

The Mustangs won their home opener on Wednesday, April 12, at Whispering Creek Golf Club with a score of 334 tying the school record low for the team at home.

Nathalie Sanchez, a junior finished fourth individually shooting an 80, just eight over par. One stroke behind Sanchez was Mikaela Livengood, a sophomore, with an 81 coming in fifth place. The final two scores for the Mustangs were from Myla Brown shooting an 85 and Alex Mankle with an 88.

After the tournament Sanchez said, “I am happy with how I played. This is one my best round of golf for Morningside. I look forward to the rest of our season.”

Brown said, “Even when we are not all playing the best, we can count on each other to play well, and that is the beauty of a team sport. We were so close to breaking the low home record we set last year.”

The women play in the Northwester/Dordt Invitation on April 21 and 22.
