(4.17.17) By Maggie Ganley–The Easter bunny came a little bit earlier than expected to Morningside College thanks to Alpha Omicron Pi’s Hop Out Arthritis event.
Hop Out Arthritis is an annual event Alpha Omicron Pi (AOII) puts on for the Siouxland community.
“This year we raised over $1,000 for Arthritis research, which is the highest amount since we created the event three years ago,” AOII’s president Erica Young stated.
This philanthropy event helps raise money for AOII’s philanthropy, the Arthritis foundation and all profits from the event are donated to arthritis research.
The event was held Sunday, April 9, on the green space outside of Lewis Hall.
26 kids registered for the Easter egg hunt and the help from 29 donors made the event possible.
Not only was there an Easter egg hunt for children ages 2-14, but there was also a silent auction, a bake sale, and face painting.
Hop Out seemed to have a good response from parents and grandparents, but there are improvements that can be made in the future.
As Shannon De Clute said about the event, “The great thing about Hop Out is that it was not overwhelming for my son. He gets nervous if there are too many people, but Hop Out was a more pleasant size and he was able to really enjoy collecting the eggs. It was great watching him get excited about opening them and finding candy. If I had a request for next year, it might be more variety in candy. Since he is only 2, much of the candy he is not allowed. The AOII sisters were very helpful and energetic.”
