How to Not Feel Overwhelmed

By Diane Nguyen–With Thanksgiving break over, we only have a couple weeks left before the end of the semester! Then after that is Winter Break and after that nothing else to worry about, until next semester. Yet with only two weeks left, you’ll probably find yourself feeling overwhelmed.

Overwhelmed with the fact that this semester literally flew by without you even knowing. That you have so much work that just mysteriously piled up because you thought it would all get done. You thought that you had time for everything, but there just wasn’t enough time for it all.

To not feel so overwhelmed, try doing something that you want to do. Nothing like homework or anything school related, but something you always wished you could do. Such as one of those things you say you can’t because you have everything else in the way. Something such as: paint, write, draw, doodle, read, play a video game, or watch a movie. Basically anything that makes you happy.

Be by yourself when you are trying to relax. That way you don’t have to deal with anyone’s problems but your own. When you are alone and done relaxing doing whatever it is that you did, take time to reflect and think about yourself. What have you accomplished this year and semester? Where were you last year? Would the kid you be proud of who you are now? Just something’s to think about to help you think about what could be different.

Once you are done being by yourself and done contemplating whatever it is that is making you feel overwhelmed, go find your person to talk to. Your person is someone that you feel comfortable talking to and know that no matter what that they will never judge you.

If you feel like you don’t have anyone to talk to knowing that your conversation will be private. make an appointment with the campus counselor: Bobbi Meister.

Here is the link to make an appointment with her.

Good luck with the end of the semester! Take time for yourself to actually do the things you want to do. And talk to your person or to Bobbi. You’re all ready one semester down and soon enough you’ll be graduated with many stories to share. The end is closer then you think. Now last piece of advice, if all else fails whisper “beep boop” to yourself and repeat until you are no longer sad. It works every time.
