By Jenni Beaver–Thanksgiving has flown by and now it’s time to break out the Santa hats. Christmas is right around the corner and that means lots of festive music. Here are my top 5 Christmas tunes that get me in the spirit of the season.
Number five: Grandmas got run Over by a Reindeer
This is definitely a classic. I remember being six years old at my grandparents house and my Granddad would break out the stuffed reindeer, push the button, and it would bounce to the tune of this song. It may be a weird one and probably not what you’ll hear at a Christmas choir concert, but the memories behind this song put it in my top five.
Number four: Joy to the World
This is one of the first songs I listen to at the start of the season. It’s upbeat and gets me in the mood to start trimming the tree. Joy is the quintessential Christmas emotion, and this song reminds me what I have to be joyful about.
Number three: Christmas is
A lesser known holiday song, Christmas is was on Francesca Battistelli’s 2012 album, and it’s still one of my favorites. Charlie Brown, caroling kids, light covered rooftops, and Jesus. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Number two: White Christmas
I’m a little picky about this song. My favorite version is sung by Bing Crosby, the perfect Christmas crooner. The movie and music and his voice. I can’t go through the season without hearing it at least fifty times.
Number one: Mary did you Know?
There are two versions of this song that blow me away every time. Danny Gokey and Scotty McCreery. For me the song is more than just something to play while decorating the tree, and that’s why it’s number one. It’s a song that reminds me of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He’s the reason for my season.
Christmas music is about more than the words in the song. It’s about the memories you’ve made over the years, and the images that come to mind as the songs play. Just like the stuffed reindeer, my family cuddled up with hot cocoa, and the reason for the season, Christmas music brings joy to everyone who hears it.
